Second night of sport league. Not great, not terrible. Last night of USBC Team 2017 pattern. I have to say I hate that extra bite at the very last minute right before it gets to the headpin. I think I made a perfect shot then ZOOM it takes a left turn. Started off with a mere 152. I was having some release issues, I kept missing right of my target and the shot was unforgiving. Next game I started getting into my wheelhouse and was pretty happy with 197. I did make a significant move giving me a better angle. More importantly I had a decent game when the rest of my team didn't. I feel like I did my job as anchor and came through enough for us to win it. Third game started off okay, then lost it in the middle then got it back ending with 167. Meh

It's not a great series but I did beat my man all 3 games which is mission accomplished to me. I was much more comfortable tonight. I didn't have to go against a pro either. I was 2nd highest overall on the team tonight not the low man so I feel like I fit in much more than the first night. I had an overall much more positive experience. My Venom Shock has been in for over a week now but with all my vehicle issues, work hours and other things I haven't been able to get over to have it drilled. I can see I really need this ball for this league if I'm going to get anywhere. I think once I get that I'll be much better off.

Next week is Cheetah pattern, hoping it will be a little better for my style.

Nice, learning how your ball reacts on the sport patterns is half the battle.

Yeah, it's quite the challenge to say the least. It's pretty scary changing lines in the middle not knowing if you're making the right choice. I guess no guts no glory aye?
My team mate who throws very similar to me switched to play way outside to 1 board which worked for him. I can't say I have the moxy to try that on sport just yet. LOL THS I'd do that all day long without hesitating. Too little margin for error on sport.

Don't be afraid to use outside line, you will likely need to with the Cheetah pattern. Part of being in a sport shot league is learning where to play and with what equipment for your specific game and the pattern playing on. I learned too late in my summer sport league that playing the outside is what worked best for me.

I have to bring home the list of patterns we are playing on this for this league, they have a sheet. Suggestions on where to start on each pattern would certainly be welcomed since I am clueless. It definitely couldn't hurt.

Tonight I did....meh. I bowled about 170 ish all 3 games. I decided to do Urethane all night so I my shots weren't diving at the last second. Nice smooth predictable arc. What I did do tonight was miss WAY too many single pin spares, 4 of which were 10 pins. There is just no excuse for that at all. I was in the handicap survivor pot and that last 10 pin cost me 290 bucks. That one 10 pin on the 3rd ball of the 10th frame. Had I picked it up I would have split the pot with the winner and got $290. Instead I whiffed it and got bupkiss. I of course didn't know until it was all over with. On the upside I got my 2 of 3 points and as a team we took 2 out of 3 and I was only out $10. I guess not all bad.

Thursday night THS league. I did very well.....223, 248 and 235. A 706 is certainly nothing to be ashamed of for a change, it's been a long time since I hit 7xx. 235 could have been better had I not died on yet another darn 10 pin in the 10th. I absolutely hate bowling on lane 1, it is right up against the wall so shooting cross lane is very difficult. Even on the strike shot I end up hitting the wall with my foot, much worse cross lane. It's like walking up to the line with a second person up against you. Still my fault, I know it's there and I need to practice on it. Either way I cleaned up in the poker game all three games. I did feel bad though, nobody came close to bowling what I did and the 2nd and 3rd game I graciously decided to split the pot with the next best hand. If I win it every game then nobody is going to want to play anymore. Still, went home with a well needed extra 80 bucks and all 7 points for me and my team. A good time was had by all which is the point of that league.

Thanks guys. Now lets see if I can carry that over to the Sport League on Monday. I made an observation between the two. On the Thursday THS league I concentrate on hitting my target. On the sport league I'm trying not to miss my target. Sounds like the exact same thing but different mindset. I need to work on the first one on both leagues.

Logically, hitting your target is the same as not missing it. Psychologically, the way you phrase an objective makes a big difference. Very few people respond well to negative goals. Say if the shot is near the gutter and one of your early frames starts with a gutter ball. If you start thinking “don’t throw it in the gutter”, you’re almost guaranteed to throw the next ball right in it or overcompensate to the point of sending the ballalmost into the opposite gutter. Always try to frame your goal in positive terms.

Right, instead of thinking "Don't miss, don't miss" the thinking should be "Okay, all I have to do is hit the target, hit the target" Exactly, that's what I was saying. It's basically the glass is half empty or half full. Optimism vs. pessimism, positive vs. negative or confidence vs. lack thereof. I get it. I just need to carry the positive to the Sport that I have on THS and treat them both like they are the same. Sounds easier than it is.

When I first tried bowling in sport leagues, I was told, “It will make you better.” I found this is not exactly true. Some people use the sport conditions to expose the short comings in their games and work to fix the problem areas. Others let the challenging conditions destroy their confidence in their ability to make good shots, paticularly on spares, and it screws up their game for months.

Yep, up to you which way you want a sport shot league experience to take you. If nothing else, you will get great spare practice.

Coming off that 706 on Thursday I went in with the attitude of killing it on sport. Once again epic fail. I suckity suck sucked! Top game was 188 of the 3. I went in like last week using urethane and it seemed the right choice had I not been wiffing spares. Finally I decided enough was enough and pulled out my reactive changed my wrist position and turned on the crack it machine. It was working, when i switched I threw a nice turkey and we needed it. Then the crank it machine then was too much and I had back to back greek churches which I didn't convert and that killed us. From that point I did okay but I didn't get but one point on the night. Still missing way too many easy spares. I left a 1-2 and chopped it! Such an easy spare I should have converted in my sleep. Even if I bowled well our team was out gunned, it wouldn't have mattered in the end.

Sorry to hear... I suppose you may have learned your lesson... Strikes are for the show and spares are for the dough...

Meh, I'm not upset or anything. I actually did better than the rest of my team, guys that average 30 or more pins higher. The only bad thing that happened was the 6th frame of game 3 I went to pick up an easy spare. When I threw it I don't know what happened but my thumb came out, my fingers hung in the inserts and bent back until they cracked, then I heard the pop pop of the fingers coming out of the inserts and the ball went right in the gutter at the approach. I went down to my knees. It was like a bowl of Rice Krispies on the approach. Even the opposing team gathered around me on the approach to see if I was okay and I never met them before.

I thought the days of being in pain like that were behind me. I don't know how I did it or what I did but it hurt. They cracked up by the hand not at the knuckles. I sat back down at the table rubbing them and was able to finish the game but I had little to nothing on the ball, virtually no turn. Worst part was throwing a strike first ball in the 10th so then I had to throw two more. Probably the one time I wish I would have just opened. It still hurts today but I think I'll be okay by thursday. If not, then it will be whatever it will be.

No new scores to update for last Thursday, this past Monday or even next Monday. I've had to miss the first two due to work and I have to work next Monday night already. My Assistant Manager duties have kicked in full force because one of the others left to pursue another career so I'm picking up the slack. I've been at work more than I've been off it seems lately. I haven't so much as thrown a bowling ball since the last post. Tonight I get to bowl on non-sport league but honestly not even looking forward to it since it's at work. I feel like I'm there so much my truck just drives me there itself like it's on autopilot. On the upside at least I'm making money, not losing or spending it. We'll see how I do tonight, maybe once I get there I'll be more in the mood after a cocktail.

After further consideration and the "AUGH" response I got from wifey when I told her I had league tonight. I think I'm just going to take tonight off bowling and get a night of rest. I haven't got to see my wife or kids since Saturday, I think it would better to spend some quality time with them vs. a bunch of goofs. Besides, I can make a nice home cooked meal rather than eat bowling alley food or take out. I'm quite burned out on both. I'm sure the family will be quite surprised and happy.

Just admit it...you're afraid of the low scores on sport shots. LOL!

LOL Nah, I've already come to realize it's nothing to fear, just like death it's an inevitability since I suck. Next Monday we were going to bowl on Eifel Tower, I was looking forward to it since it's a short pattern. Plus that's the closest I'll ever get to Paris. With any luck I'll make it the week after to shoot my low series. =)

I was sorta looking forward to bowling on the league tonight because our oiler has been putting out 20ml+ on our 42' THS for several weeks now. WAY too much for our lanes. Ever since the lanes have been cut it was causing balls to get stuck at the base of the ball return because they were too oil covered to come up. Additionally, soaking our ball rags in the bag on the ball return ramp in 2 days as opposed to a week or more. It was just repaired and now it's 16ml slightly shortened to 40'. I'm sure with the lower volume scores are going to definitely go up. It would have been fun but it will be there next week. I'm already have dinner in the oven and am too relaxed to go.
