After last weeks fiasco I need a good night. I had been averaging about 190 for the last 6 or 7 weeks then last week had a 461. Humidity was high and approaches were very tacky. Got my new shoes and have the S10 soles available tonight if I need them but humidity is low today...lol. Go figure!

Not a good night. Put the S8 on the new shoes but my plant thigh was hurting and by the 3rd game could hardly put weight on it. Both teams struggled but the other team got lucky breaks all night. They had a 170's average bowler that had a 234, 246, and 196. They had pins rolling around the deck all night knocking pins down. Anyway, I had a 191, 174, and 159. I was 7/7 on single pin spares but only 9 strikes on the night. Just couldn't find the pocket. We lost the 1st game by about 50, the 2nd by about 130, and won the 3rd by about 75.
Just looked through my stats and since my return last January I have only had 1 600. The summer league was a 4 game series but no 800's there so only 1 night averaging 200 out of 31 nights. That sucks but I guess the bright side is my average is 176 with only 1 600 which to me means consistency?
Oh, modified my release a little tonight. My normal release is almost completely behind the ball. Very low revs. Tonight I started coming around the ball just a little. Not much but slight. Definite difference in revs. I didn't rotate my wrist at release but more just held it that way on my downswing. I had to move about 1.5-2 boards further right after I did this. But a noticeable difference in revs.

Dude, ditch the S8. That thing is useless. ;)

The S8 sole is all I use. Works great! Just another opinion...

That was a bad post. I’ll rephrase.
You need to try out that S10, if your thigh is hurting. I had the same problems with S8.

I wanted to try the S10 but when I felt how slick it was when I put my ball on the rack I got a little nervous about falling....lol. It didn't help that I got there late and in a rush forgot my knee brace and only got 3 practice shots. Will try it next week. My knee wasn't hurting. It was the outside of my mid thigh. I had cut grass right before that with a push mower and was rushing to get it done so might have pulled something then and didn't notice it until bowling.

Wasn't swinging my elbow but more just turning my wrist a little more. My normal release I am just barely off center of the back of that ball, lets call it maybe 10-15* off center. I turned my wrist just slightly more (closer to a suitcase style grip but barely a noticeable change). I would say I was maybe 25* off center now but it was enough to get more side revs than forward roll. In my mind I am getting way too much ball speed because all of my roll and momentum is forward. With this new release my ball speed was about 1 MPH slower and had more side revs. I didn't turn my wrist at the release but more on my backswing then left my hand in that position through my downswing.

When I first got my Dexter Tank shoes, they felt as though they were much slicker than the cheaper Brunswick shoes I'd been using for a two or three years. I got the replaceable heels and soles to give me a chance to save my knees as I'm getting older. Got the S10 sole and considered getting the S12, too. Tried the S10 and for the places I bowl at they're not suitable, too slick. Stayed with the S8. Tried the red heel which I believe is H7 and it was too slick as well. Considered getting the H6 to give it a try, but H5 heel and it's been good for me. Guess I'll stay with S8 and H5 for now.
The article spoke about using your fingers to get revs primarily. As for me try not to turn my wrist at all. From the start of the push away I've got my hand under the ball with the thumb out to the right and the index finger pointing toward my target. Just keep it that way down to the release point down at my shoe. Seems to work pretty well. Good luck with the S8 or S10 or whatever works for you...

For some reason I start with my ball at about stomach level but my hand sort of cocked with my fingers pointing towards my right side (i'm a lefty) and my thumb towards my left so my pointer and ring finger is more or less pointing to my right. I normally kind of keep that position as long as I can. If you hold your hand down like you were about to release your ball (for a righty) your thumb would be pointing close to 3:00 with your fingers pretty much straight down and the palm of your hand facing the pins. Let's call that 0*. Now turn your hand slightly to the left (for a righty) so your palm is pointing more to the pins in the lane to your left (maybe 20* now). I was trying to have this position just after the start of my downswing and hold that position.
Hard to explain in text...lol. If I can get consistent with it that would be great. I get quite a few more revs that way.

I have about 3 inches between the 2nd knuckle on my middle finger to my index finger on my right hand. My fingers are just about 90 degrees CCW from the direction my index finger is pointing. It sounds like you're doing about the same. After the release I'd like my thumb to be pointing upward or slightly to the right. I've found that I'm able to do this better with a 15 lb. ball rather than a couple of 16 lb. balls I still have left. Guess I'm getting weaker in my old age... :)

sounds similar. my hand is relatively flat on my normal release with my thumb more towards the lane to my left (lefty) and my palm facing the pins but modified that to what sounds pretty close to yours. thumb is pointing more towards the lane to the left of me
