Going to the pro shop next week to set up to tape my middle finger. I got rid of inserts last year to try to alleviate tearing on the sides of my middle finger, but now it's back. Most likely a by-product of years of having my hands in some nasty machining coolants, oil, and solvents, coupled with age. I would like to try taping just that finger. If anyone has done this, how has it worked out for them? I'm guessing it'll change my feel, but I'm a little afraid of how much. Also, any recommendations on the tape itself?

Can't say for sure but we have a guy that tapes his 2 fingertips with yellow tape. He is a very high rev bowler with the modern release. Not sure if he has inserts in or not or the reason he tapes his fingers. Either way he is about a 220 bowler so it apparently doesn't affect him negatively.

I've experienced some rubbing on the sides of my fingers, but not tearing. I've used the NT50Y from Vise and it works pretty well and stretches a bit. The Vise Bio Skin Pro (blue) works well and stretches a bit more and keeps your fingers from swelling. Turbo black patch tape is 2" wide and can do a pretty good job as well. It's quite slick.
I'd say that the bio skin product feels best to me. I cut it in such a way to have 1" wide or less around the tips of the finger and cut to length to give enough to wrap around as the tape comes in 3" wide rolls.
Good luck!
