Because of being 72 now with new hips and now knee problems my Raw Hammer Anger ball with a 2000 surface dull was not good for me because I have no approach. I walk to the foul line and set up and swing three times and let it go. Way too much hook even with me standing with my slide foot by the right gutter. I am left handed by the way. So at practice today I had the pro shop guy give my ball a 4000 surface dull. I thought that it would take a while to get used to it but it didn't. Now the arch of my slide foot is on board 34 and I belly it out to about board 6. I was getting nice pocket hits. I have only a 128 average at this time. I bowled am 144, 148, 117 and a 153. That stinker 117 was because I started turning my hand too early and was leaving bad splits. The last game I made sure I concentrated on my hand and keep it behind the ball at release. I get a hook with ease because I have no approach and a slower ball speed because of that. I wish I would have changed the surface at the start of our season in September. I love the reaction I get on my anger ball now. I had the ball get away from me a couple times and it went out to board four and still came back to the pocket. A no approach bowling style is good at practice to teach yourself to stay behind the ball at the release. I can tell when I do it right because I feel the weight of the ball on my fingertips at the release. I am glad the pro shop guy said he would surface change my ball before my friend and I started practice. I asked him what I owed him when we checked out and he said no charge. I said thanks of course.
