...that Norm Duke's rev rate is over 400 when he wants it to be? This is a good lesson for league bowlers; choosing to go straighter does not equate to a low rev rate, it just means controlling your tilt and rotation to maximize carry.

Yea and his ball speed was over 18 mph.

Yes, I noticed that and higher speed, too.
He was using a SoniQ in the right lane and I would have expected it to break more than it did.
What was he doing to keep it going pretty much straight? He must have kept his hand behind the ball and didn't come around it much at all. I didn't get a good view of his hand position at release.

Norm has the ability to control both his tilt and his rotation. He does this by varying hand positions and where he feels the ball on his hand when he releases it.

Never really paid attention to Norms ball before but they way he was throwing today is very similar shape to mine (except I'm a lefty). He was pretty much running down the lane at about the 6-7 board at the arrows and breakpoint. Very similar to mine and the line I play. It was pretty cool watching him as not many play that line.

Also, did anyone notice Kimberly's interview with him? Very awkward at the end. She was still talking into the mic as she walked away.

Yeah the 400+ rev rate surprised me but I'm really happy Norm won, he's one of my favorite bowlers and if anyone was getting into bowling and wanted to bowl one handed, I would tell them to copy Norm.

We have new Brunswick scorers and they measure ball speed and if Norms ball was measured on our lanes he would be closer to 13 than 18. As to rev rate I just can't believe it is that high.
Now measuring his accuracy is easy he is one of the best ever. I just wish the PBA would not try to inflate things like ball speed or rev rate.
I would like to see Norm win and get his 40th title.

Yeah, really surprised watching Norm's balls go down the lane that he was anywhere close to 400 revs. Looked more like 300, but apparently looks are very deceiving LOL!!

If his rev rate is 400 or better, then mine is higher than I thought. I wish there was an easy way to do that, considering the ways I've seen it done in the past.

Yeah. My ball looks like it has more revs than his and I really don't think I'm at 400. Really want to get my stats checked to see where I am though. I generically checked mine myself when I first started back and it seemed to be around 300 but I have modified my release and feel I'm higher than that but 400 is a stretch. My speed also looks faster than his and they were showing higher speeds than mine show but mine is measured at the pins where it seems they measure near the front as the speed is displayed when the ball is at 1/2 lane

Remember that your speed is measured with a cheap version of a radar gun, and it's on an angle as well. The straighter your ball goes by that "band", the faster it will appear to be. Guys with a big arc are probably faster than the gun shows. Straighter guys, the speed shown might be a little closer to the truth.

Watch the Chris Paul Celebrity Pro-Am and then you will really question the stats that Fox is throwing up there. After watching that there is no way those numbers are accurate. Some of the celebrities were throwing straight down the lane yet still had high rev rates.

Specto may not be the most accurate for rev rate because it usually a formula and doesn't actually read the revolution on the ball. I took a lesson at Kegel and it said I a rev rate of 380+ and I'm closer to 280.

You are right but my speed is quite a bit faster than most in my league by about 1.5 MPH. Mine reads around 17.0 to 17.7 usually where my teammates are all closer to 15.5 to 16.0 so I know I'm faster than most in my league (not just based on my teammates speed but across the board).

I was wondering how a camera could possibly read the RPMs on an object from any angle.

That would have to be some amazing software to figure out the axis of rotation on a moving target, with both speed and rpms constantly changing.

The straighter/harder the ball is thrown the higher the revs will show with Spector as it uses a formula. It’s not actually counting revs.

I guess I'm a Philistine. I pay attention to my ball target, track shape, and how it gets through the pins and deck. I don't much care about mph o

Who you callin’ “old”?

I can’t call Norm old. He’s five years younger than I am.
