What do you look for in a ball review video?

I'm trying to get better at it and would appreciate some feedback. Do you even think they are helpful? I realize that most review videos shed the best light possible on whatever ball they are suppose to be about but I think they can be informative. What say you?

The positives: You give the audience plenty of time to see your bowler statistics and I will also say it is nice getting a ball review from someone who isn't putting up 18-20 mph with 500 revs. Also it was good to see this ball on a pattern (also something that many bowlers have experienced being that it is from the Open championships).

Need to have: I would really recommend showing the layout you put on the ball. While people should depend on their pro shop to layout their own equipment rather than the review video, it does help prove out that you are not putting some obscene pattern on the ball to sell a different story.

Nice to have: As you stated, these videos are intended to show the ball in their best possible light. Watching this video (as with almost all videos) it is obvious you got lined up and were throwing it well; at the arrows in the 5 shots I paid attention to I saw 13, 13, 12, 12, 11. While you can't combat small sample size in a ball reaction video what you could do is show a few patterns - keep the Open Championship pattern, add another sport pattern that you think matches up well with the ball (or I guess a THS since a lot of the audience will be using for that - but make sure to clearly express where you think this matches up best for THS). Also, don't be scared to discuss what you wanted this ball to do.

Ya gotta have different bowlers throwing the ball. If I view a ball video and it's a 2-hander or EJ Tackett level rpm guy...what's the point?? I mean, yeah...nice to watch...good for them...nice strikes. BUT...ZERO relevance to me.

Then I look for the angle the ball enters the pocket and where the ball exits the pin deck. I don't know how many videos I've seen where the bowlers and spokespeople are all yelling about how absolutely awesome the ball is...and I'm watching the ball deflect and leave the pin deck over the 9-pin...barely even carrying the strike.

AND...if ya want to just record strikes...I'm fine with that...I get it. But, can ya "edit" out the bad shots instead of have someone knock over the corner pin. It just makes me feel like...so, this company/ball reviewer wants me to trust their evaluation...but they can't be honest with me?? I mean, if it's Motiv...all bets are off...but for the rest of the manufacturers...come on...have some integrity.

Ebonite did some where someone like Tommy Jones would just throw ten shots with Tommy making comments while waiting for the ball to come back. So the first one might be a flat ten or maybe it went a bit high leaving the 4 pin. Then he might throw a few strikes and play with the line a bit to how big an area he could play.

There are a few guys on line who I believe shoot straight with it. If they like a ball they will say so if they don't they won't trash it but you can tell from their comments. Just watching some one throwing strikes with a ball means nothing but there are those who do give informed opinions. Most of these guys especially the pros are throwing 18 mph+ with 500 revs of course the ball looks good lol. its far enough removed from how I throw the ball not to matter.

Ball review videos a re a joke. All they ever show you is strike shots. Let's see all of the shots.

Agreed. I did a couple like that before but didn't get the response i thought i would. Thats how I would perfer to see ball reviews.

Im working on getting a couple guys who throw it differently form me in on these videos but real life gets in the way for sure. Every balls has its place and if I feel a ball wont work on a certain condition, I wont mention it. I only suggest what condition the ball should be played on. I would never suggest a ball I know is for heavy oil to be used on a typical house shot where it would be out of place.

To answer the question, as many here have said, the video of somebody else's drill and bowing is absolutely pointless for me. I don't look at them and I wonder why you bother to record them.

I roll a full roller with dominant revs. Yes, that is unusual. So how a given ball acts for me is not at all how the ball acts for almost anybody else... I tend to look at the RG, the Diff, and the cover stock when thinking of adding another ball to my collection. I've got reasonable budget and some interest is trying new equipment, but a video isn't part of my process.
