I have a player looking for a middle ball between a Crux Prime and a Pitch Black. It doesn't have to stay in the Storm family.

2H, 18 mph, 430ish rev rate.

That's a hole you could drive a Mack Truck through lol. Any medium ball would do. I would suggest you get a bit more detail of what he wants.

Agreed...so many choices out there. He would just need to decide what color he wants and go with it. LOL!!

He’s wanting something symmetrical, since he’s having some control issues with asymm, and he’d prefer something that would help him with shorter patterns

Staying in the Storm/Roto Grip family to make this a little easier (and more narrow). For shorter patterns I would recommend staying away from polish out of the box (if it becomes that the bowler really needs this they can resurface) - without knowing anything else they have in the bag and going to assume they don't own anything other than the Crux Prime and Pitch Black I would recommend something like the Storm IQ Tour/Roto Grip Idol and then potentially lay it out with a benchmark type drilling. But take that recommendation with a grain of salt because I don't know the bowler. Obviously a good pro shop is the direction to go for the recommendation (since they can get eyes on them).

I would think the Pitch Black would be his go to on short patterns myself with his stats I'd think that would be a decent option. Most bowlers prefer urethane or very strong balls for short patters as they basically burn them up on the way in. I'm not an expert on short with my low ball speed it's not a good mix lol. I would think actually his existing line up would be short pattern compatible. If he's wanting more length the IQ tour Emerald or a hustle is probably the way to go.

+1 on the IQ Tour Emerald. If he wants a ore angular move the Idol Pearl Also look into 9900 Global Ordinance solid (b enchmark/smooth) or Ordinance Pearl (angular)
