So after the first couple of weeks of our summer league everybodys averages were down quite a bit. Teammate asked the owner and he said no changes in oiling. A few weeks ago a fellow bowler said he thought it might be lighter volume since there are less bowlers. Summer league is 4 bowlers per pair for 4 games so 80 frames per lane each night if my math is right. On regular fall leagues there are 150 frames per night on each lane. Wondering how likely it is that the volume is lighter for the summer league?

A lot of house changes the oil pattern during the summer do to the temperature change and it's affect on the oil and it's viscosity. When it's colder the oil doesn't spread out has fast as it does in the summer. A lot of house's change the oil/pattern lengths trying to compensate for it.

In my experience, pretty likely. I run into the same situation, the shot plays vastly different even from Monday (summer) to Wednesday (yesterday, first week of fall). Oil volume, transition etc is all way different. In our case, they used a different brand of oil for summer as well as a lighter volume.

Changing conditions and sometimes non function air conditioning are a few reasons why I don't bowl summers any more.

A couple of weeks ago, I started a thread about how bowlers still think that everything is always about the oil. Here we go again! Rather than get into all the things that can affect how the lanes play; temperature, humidity, etc., let me ask you this: what's the difference? Whatever it is that is making the lanes play differently than what you are "used to," how about concentrating on how to play the condition that's put out in front of you. Maybe you can be the one whose average is not "down quite a bit" because you used your energy figuring out how to play the lanes rather than wasting your time figuring out why they've changed.

Actually I fared pretty well with them. My average is up 11 pins from last summers league and 9 pins from the winter league. Probably mostly due to me getting more consistent but I just felt better this summer. Just wondering why so I can reverse engineer it to see why it worked so much better for me.
EDIT: Last summer my last 4 weeks of the league I averaged 192. This year the last 5 weeks I averaged 198. Something about those summer conditions works really well for me. Drier lanes work better for me? If I figure this out I might be able to fix things when I am struggling.
