What would you recommend for someone who has never had a legit pair of shoes (ones that don't have slide on both feet)?

I’m hovering in the 200-205 range but I’m looking for something above the entry level shoe

I think the key question is where do you bowl?
If you just bowl at one center and the approaches are well maintained you can get by with the next step up from what you’ve been using, in other words you could get a pair of “handed” shoes where only one shoe has a slide sole.
If you bowl, or intend to bowl, at different centers, or if the approaches vary a lot at the one or two centers where you bowl, I would recommend one with interchangeable slide soles.

I bought a pair of Dexters with fixed soles for about $55 but in the summer league I was sticking bad so bought a pair of Storm's with interchangable soles for about $160. Turns out I only use the #8 sole. The 10 is way too slick and I fell twice with it on so the 8 it is. In the end I should have saved my money and stuck with the $55 ones

Dexter does make an S9 sole but it doesn’t come, or at least it didn’t with the shoes when I bought my SST8s

Somebody mentioned that. Might try to find one. My Dexters aren't interchangeable so not sure they would work on the Storms? Seems a 9 might be perfect for me. I don't really slide but when the approach is tacky it will sometimes jam my knee so I'd like a little give

A option you might try is a Bowlers Slide Sock, it just slips over your shoe.

Yeah. I have seen those. Might try to get an S9 for my Storms first though.

Ok so I never thought I'd spend close to $300 on bowling shoes but the 9s are so worth it. Just realizing after 3 years that I should try something other than a s5 or s7 on wood approaches..I think I cann have more stability and leverage with a straight slide... though a 3sole/5heel is not recommended by on the chart

$300?? I thought they were in the $180 range as far as pricing goes. I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much on shoes.

Soles cost 30 ea if you don't like the ones they came with.. can't just try the others out for free
