LAS VEGAS - In the entertainment world, having your name up in lights often is a sign of success. The same holds true at the USBC Open Championships, where hundreds of bowlers compete each day hoping to see their names on the tournament leaderboard.

Donald Hacke Jr. of Newport News, Va., got that and more in the Entertainment Capital of the World as he cracked the top five in five events at Cashman Center on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old right-hander shot 726 in singles, 663 in doubles and 625 in team to roll into the Regular All-Events lead with 2,014 and helped Nobody's Pro Shop or Yorktown, Va., into the top spot in Team All-Events with 9,226. Robert Harvey of Boise, Idaho, previously led all-events with 1,957, while Macanudos of Auburn, Ga., held the Team All-Events lead with 8,944.

"I've only been here once before, so this is rather new to me, and it's definitely the best I have ever shot," said Hacke, who also is second in doubles, fourth in singles and fifth in team. "I never looked at any other scores, and I never thought my scores would put me in first. There are still a lot of good bowlers to bowl, but I'm hoping my score will hold up."

Lorenzo Jackson Jr. added 1,938 for Nobody's Pro Shop and was followed by Troy McKinney (1,886), Joseph Wetzler (1,770) and Emmit Mincy (1,618).

"Coming into today, I settled down and felt pretty good when I figured out where I needed to play," Hacke said. "The main thing is not to focus on the size of the event. You have to stay focused on your game."

On Tuesday afternoon, Bigg Dogs 2 of Greenwood, Mo., posted the first 3,000 of the year and moved into the Regular Team lead with 3,051. The group had games of 973, 1,043 and 1,035 to slip past Macanudos, which previously held the lead with 2,940.

James Kent Jr. led the way for Bigg Dogs 2 with 707 and was followed by Doug Vergouven (642), Jim Anderson (598), Zoran Arsenijevic (596) and Charles Smith (508).

"At the beginning, we wished we could have scored a little higher, but this is Chuck's first year bowling for the team, and he was a little nervous," said Kent, who made his 12th Open Championships appearance.
