Florida bowling alleys can't open until Phase 2 of their reopening plan. I think DeSantis said that could happen any day now, but it still seems a bit early. Regardless, be careful and make sure if they do reopen they are being smart about it and following the rules!

Here in PA, we are still all closed up and some essential businesses are blatantly NOT following state guidelines for capacity, distancing, etc. People are becoming noticeably restless, careless, and it is getting kind of tense in stores. Not a good situation around here at all.

We have a similar situation here in Vegas. All of the casinos have been closed, and virtually everything we use is in casinos: bowling centers, movie theaters, restaurants, hair salons, etc. While our Mayor has been very verbal about her opinion that the Governor was wrong to close all of the casinos, I really worry about what's going to happen when they reopen and all of the stir-crazy tourists start flocking here again.

Okay heres what I have, The lanes opened today this is the plane they have.

COVID-19 Safety and Sanitation Plan

You should be able to have a fun time with your loved ones without worry. With an enhanced cleanliness and sanitation plan, Pin Chasers is committed to creating an environment that is as safe as possible for our guests and staff to enjoy the fun and excitement of bowling. We are hopeful that the threat COVID-19 will soon pass but, regardless, we will always put the safety of our guests and staff first. Welcome back, and good bowling!

Our Safety Plan

Along with operating at 25% capacity with social distancing in place, we are also following these procedures in order for our staff and guests to be as safe as possible.

All guests will have their temperature checked at the entrance. We encourage the use of masks at this time by guests, but it is not required. If you or a guest can’t enter because of a high temperature (100 degrees or higher), we will offer you your next visit on us for bowling.

Every bowling area will be cleaned and disinfected after each use and be cleaned and disinfected upon arrival for each guest or small group.

All bowling balls and rental bowling shoes will be sanitized before each new guest or small group. Each guest can see this occur for added confidence. Any guest can request a new sanitation of balls or shoes at any time and we will be happy to do it.

All bathrooms will be sanitized and disinfected after every guest’s use and every 30 minutes. We request that each guest wash their hands every 30 minutes, but it is not required.

All arcade and video games will be sanitized and disinfected after each use as well as every 30 minutes. Guests should use social distancing in the GameZone area and not play next to another guest at any time. Gloves will be made available to guests that request them.

Lane usage will be separated to accomplish social distancing.

Hand Sanitizing Stations are available throughout each location for staff and guests to routinely sanitize their hands.

All staff will pass a temperature check and qualifying questions before each shift.

All staff will wear a mask and gloves and wash their hands every 30 minutes. Food and beverage staff will maintain expected food safety guidelines by washing hands as needed and replacing gloves as needed in food service beyond CDC guidelines related to COVID-19.

Every location will be deep-cleaned and sanitized each night after close.

Your safety is the most important thing to us. We understand that the threat posed by COVID-19 may cause some guests to choose to not participate at this time and we respect that decision. We can’t wait to welcome you back when the time comes, and you feel comfortable to do so. If you have any suggestions on safety practices or questions on how things are done, please ask us in person or at info@pinchasers.net.

Heard today that PA Gov Wolf is being investigated for his issuance of waivers. Apparently he has let some businesses remain open while other similar ones have had to close. There was a waiver process and they are asking to see his list and compare that list to campaign donors. etc

Oh I know they aren’t “allowed” I meant maybe someone heard of an own see saying screw Wolff and defying what’s at this point overkill. Plus in our area we are close to nj, deleware, and even to some extent Maryland. So maybe we get lucky and those states open some stuff up

That would be nice, but the bowling center owners I know in this area are historically always by the book when it comes to stuff like that. They don't want to risk losing it all in defiance of the orders. Something will have to be done soon, though. Here in Montco, we are still averaging 101 new cases daily. That is over 3x what Wolf wants to see before moving a county to yellow. One day recently we had a day where there were only 18 reported new cases...the very next day there were 164 new cases. At this rate, we will be "red" for months. People are getting restless and careless around here. It is kind of worrisome. You can't keep people locked down for months on end and expect them to remain docile the whole time. Even if we go yellow in June, it will be another several weeks before going green. I am guessing maybe August. Hopefully before then, but August is my best guess for when things in this area go green.

DE centers are still closed and DE police will stop you from entering the state if you have out of state plates on your car, so that would be tough. MD and VA centers are still closed. I wouldn't want to risk a trip to a bowling center in NJ even if they reopen before PA.

Well, hey...at least you can go to a barber now. :p That's something I would love to be able to do!

Kind of funny, Ohio guidance is suggesting "curbside pickup" for salons, barbers, etc. That would be kind of interesting LOL

The deleware thing is mostly overblown bs. They did it at total wine for a few days because it’s a huge store on the border. Meanwhile you can drive a mile down the road to other deleware liquor stores with no fan fare.

I’ve also been in deleware at least twice in the last month with no problems.

And if your it of state your allowed in if your visiting to care for a loved one or passing through, so if pulled over you use either excuse. And when they ask where the loved one lives the answer is simple.

“That’s not your business” or if you wanna be nice “ deleware”

Everyone around here is still wearing masks, but the social distancing thing is out the window. No one is abiding by it anymore. The waiting lines to get in to stores are also growing, which means more people are out and about and not staying at home.

They are mandatory here too. Like you said, people have had enough and are starting not to care anymore.

I don't mind the masks, actually, and always wear one when I leave the house once a week. I also respect people's space and maintain the social distancing. It stresses me out when I am trying to respect other peoples space, and someone walks right up behind me or next to me. A friend of mine actually has started telling people in stores to "back off!" when she feels like they are getting too close. She said it catches a lot of people off guard, but most people will quickly apologize and back away.

Well still no news of re-opening but today the owner posted on the centers FB account saying they are raffling off a bunch of balls. Not sure the exact details but it's $10 per number and there are 26 numbers. I think there were 9 balls total and I guess they will keep doing these raffles until they are gone. I got 2 numbers ($20). He just posted it around 8 hours ago and they are already sold out.

Just got an e-mail from our center saying that they plan to reopen June 20th which coincides with when the state says that gyms and bowling centers open up. I’m surprised that they are going to do it when it will beat least several more weeks until they can reopen the bar.

A few of our lanes opened last week so a few of us went bowling yesterday. Just felt good to do something normal, other than work. Timing is a bit off and my new ball (about 10 games on it) was interesting to get a feel for as the oil seemed very flat.

They are using only the even numbered lanes. They have tape on the floor pit area of the odd lanes to encourage no sitting on the couches, but people were - we did. Still most people were social distancing for the most part. They had areas for which direction to walk in the walkways - not always followed though. And you exit through the bar, not the front entrance. Hand sanitizer available and they disinfect the seating after a lane finishes.

They will use the even lanes for 4 weeks and then the odd lanes for 4 weeks. We can start our summer league on June 12th and bowl for 11 weeks. That house has 40 lanes so it is pretty roomy. They also put more tables in behind every lane and took away the chairs right behind the pit area/sofas.

Ohio bowling alleys can officially open on Tues (May 26).l Where I bowl posted on FB they are in the process of making changes and have a target date of June 9. There are a number who really want to bowl. I can hardly wait!!! I feel bad for those who have to wait longer and happy for those who don't.

Even when PA bowling centers "fully" reopen, they will only be permitted to allow 50% of their licensed capacity. The PA Governor has said that he will not permit 100% until there is a proven vaccine. That is really going to hurt a lot of businesses here in PA. Trying to make a living on half your normal allowed business is going to hurt (gyms, movie theaters, bowling centers, salons, barbers, etc.) Even restaurants and retail stores will be limited to 75%. I guess this is the "new normal" until the vaccine is developed and widely available.

LOL! Our Giant grocery stores around here typically have lines waiting to get in due to being at the reduced capacity limit. Costco and Walmart are likely to have lines outside, too. Home Depot as well usually has a line, unless you go during the last business hour of the day.

On my once-a-week trip out I try to go to smaller stores like Weis, Aldi, or Lidl. Usually no lines for those.

I avoid Wegmans unless there is simply no choice. It is just horrible to deal with.

boatman37

The only place we had to wait in line was a local home building supply store that is about the size of a typical local grocery store but much smaller than Lowes or Home Depot. They had a line outside. Other than that haven't had to wait in line anywhere. But we are on the western side of the state where population is a little lower and there are less reported cases.

BTW, my son just went to Kinzers, PA yesterday for work (near West Chester). Will probably be there a few months at least.

League bowlers only during league hours.....no one wants league to shut down, no one to narc being over the “limit”

I mean cops aren’t gonna randomly stop by business and bowling alleys of all places to check capacity limit. They barely go out of the way to enforce actual crime....unless someone calls it in

Leagues will look a whole lot different. With the centers having to skip a lane, that drops available lanes in half. Our center has 48 lanes. That leaves 24 that can be used. Our summer league typically has 30 teams, and it wasn't the only league. Other leagues take up the rest of the house.

48 teams, 24 lanes...doesn't quite work. So now the center has to figure out how to accommodate the leagues. Tell them they can only have 1/2 of all league bowlers back? First come, first serve? Draw from a hat which teams get to bowl? Extend hours of operation and push some leagues to a 2nd shift?

The USBC is allowing league bowling on a single lane to be sanctioned (as opposed to switching lanes each frame.) So you are looking at 4 bowlers on a single lane, bowling against a team on a single lane 2 lanes over. League purists are already screaming this is "unfair" because teams will be able to create a line for themselves and shoot the lights out. I couldn't care less...I just want to bowl.

There are people out there that love to narc...bowling centers wouldn't get away with breaking the rules for very long before some busybody called the local police. Plus, the parking lot would be a dead giveaway for how many people might be in the center. The last thing the bowling centers want to do is lose their business licenses.

There is also the arcade, billiards, laser tag, bar, etc. that will count towards licensed capacity. That will all take away from how many people will be able to bowl in the center at any given time.

One of the USBC changes is that leagues that are too big to fit the downsized number of lanes will be able to assign teams to different times, even on a different day. So half the league might bowl at 6:00p.m. Monday, and the other half at 9:00. Or it might turn out half Monday at 6 and the other half Tuesday at the same time.
My guess is we will lose a significant number of bowlers because their team will be given a time that doesn’t work with their schedule. Then we also lose the bowlers with serious underlying medical issues, the ones whose wives won’t let them leave the house;), and the soreheads who refuse any changes to what they’re used to. I think a lot of the bigger leagues will shrink or choose to split up. Smaller leagues will get shoved into the least desirable time slots.

Splitting the league into different days and times will work in some cases (I wouldn't mind it), but for houses that have leagues every night that will be very difficult.

Yep. We have leagues about every night and even a couple mid day. 40 lanes but on Tuesday night we have 16 teams and the womens league has 6 so we would need 44 lanes. I'm sure a few will drop out so maybe we go to 14 teams or something. Wednesday night they have all 40 lanes full. Be hard to work it out at our center.

It seems to vary by state. Centers in some states are permitting up to 6 per lane if they are all from the same household. Others are limiting to 3 per lane if not related. Using every other lane seems to be a universal policy at this point.

The 50% capacity rule, and the "no group sizes of more than X" seem to really be the major issue for bowling centers. Ohio was the most recent state to reopen bowling centers, and some proprietors have stated that even at 50% capacity it doesn't pay for them to reopen.

They are very close to where I am, and I have walked around in the Quakertown location, but I have never actually bowled there. Maybe when things reopen I will try their Sunday rent-a-lane deal and check it out.

As soon as we go "green" I would imagine they will reopen. Hopefully only 3-4 weeks away!

My center just announced they are opening 6/16. They are having a meeting on 6/23 about summer league. That league will start that same night after the meeting. Our summer league used to be 2 man teams so 4 to a pair. Now they said they will do 3 man teams this summer. Probably to keep it to 6 to a pair and maybe skip every other lane? Doubt I will bowl the summer league as I had planned to sit out even before Covid hit.

That is interesting. So they are reopening one day after going to the "green" phase? It is surprising they plan to increase the number of bowlers on a pair. Please keep us updated on how they structure the leagues (if the state even allows sports leagues to resume...some states are not allowing leagues to resume, only "recreational" business.) Locally here we have been hearing that it will need to be one lane between bowlers. The USBC is now allowing sanctioned leagues to bowl on a single lane instead of alternating lanes to help abide by the every other lane restriction.

That would mean a league that would normally use lanes 1-8, for example, would use lanes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15. Then immediately after they are done bowling, the center would activate lanes 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 while they clean/sanitize the tables, chairs, consoles, etc. of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15.

Just heard that Earl Bowl is planning to reopen on the 19th. Every other lane. Yay!

A lot of businesses in this area (salons, bowling centers, theaters, etc.) are getting way hung up on going "green" exactly 2 weeks after we go "yellow" tomorrow. That date has never been made official, and it is all hinging on the Governor making that decision based on a whole bunch of factors. It's great to be optimistic, but I won't believe it until it actually happens and am not getting overly excited about it yet.

In the case of Montgomery County, at the weekly update meeting last week a reporter specifically asked if we would be going "green" on June 19th, and the county representative said that was entirely up to Gov. Wolf and they couldn't guarantee anything. They went on to say that if new cases of the virus do not continue to trend downward it could delay getting to the "green" phase. Of course Montco is still averaging 80 new cases per day which is higher than what the Gov. would like to see. So, who knows what will actually happen?

I would guess they are increasing the number on each team because they will be using every other lane. Instead of the league taking twice as many lanes it will only take one and a half times more.

Although it also potentially splits teams up, and that might be a deal breaker for people who have specific people they want on their team.

Sims Lanes. Beaver Falls, PA. (hometown of Joe Namath) Just off the turnpike about 12 miles from the Ohio line. We are about 5 hours from Philadelphia.

Yeah, I think going to 3 man teams will reduce the number of teams so they can keep some lanes open. We typically had 40 teams with 2 per team. We also had alternates (we had 3 on our team and we rotated weeks). I'd guess a total of about 100 or so members total but I doubt all 100 will sign up for the summer league after everything that has happened.

I'm in Lawrence County. We went green last week. Beaver County still has not gone green. Every county in the western half of PA will be green by tomorrow except Beaver County which is ridiculous. There is a nursing home in Beaver County (Brighton Manor) where 90% of the cases and 90% of the deaths occurred. Take those numbers away and they are on par with all other counties around here.

Thanks. Been to Beaver, but never bowled there. I'll have to look into that place.

Beaver is only about 7 or 8 miles from B.F. Our marina we keep our boat at is about 1/2 mile from Beaver (Bridgewater). When you get off the PA turnpike at the B.F. exit you go towards Ellwood City and Sims is about 1/2 mile from the exit ramp. 40 lanes and all about bowling. Very few video games. If you are there it is for bowling. They have a bar and food too but you get the point. Pretty nice place and kept in good shape.

Just a side note, Rochester Bowl is about 10 miles away and is where Woody Harrelson bowled in one of the scenes in Kingpin. Haven't seen the movie in so long I couldn't even tell you which scene but I bowled there once and from what I remember I think it's only like 8 lanes. It's in about a 4 story building and IIRC it's on the 2nd floor.

Wife mentioned a good point today. Beaver County defied Gov Wolf a few weeks ago when other counties went yellow. Now all of western PA is green except Beaver County. Wonder if Wolf is punishing Beaver County for going against him? I live about 2 miles from the Beaver County line in Lawrence County.

Yeah thats what I meant. We use all 40 normally in the summer league but instead of 2 man teams we will have 3 man. And the fact that the summer league will now only be 9 weeks I think alot will sit out but I still think with skipping a lane they will use the whole center

It is now looking like we will not be in the green phase in Montgomery County until "early July". The county is only currently only meeting 3 of the 4 criteria for moving to green. A county needs to meet all 4 criteria for 14 days in a row to move to the next phase. The funny thing is, the state Dept of Health shows us as meeting all 4. The county commissioner came out last night and said "Well, actually, the state is mistaken and we are only meeting 3 of the criteria." Go figure.

That being said, the bowling center where I bowl fully intends to run short season summer leagues as soon as the county goes green and the center reopens. I will totally be on board for that just for something to do for a couple of hours one night a week. From what I have been hearing, they will require masks be worn to enter and walk around within the center, but you do not have to wear it while actually bowling. Not quite sure the efficacy of that policy, especially if bowling with people not in the same household, but we shall see.

League bowlers will also be discouraged from bringing family members or others with them to the center as it would take away from the allowed capacity of actual paying customers. That may not sit well with some people where I bowl, as they like to bring their spouses, children, etc. with them to hang out while they bowl.

Several allies are open in NV. My Wednesday evening team used to always practice together Saturday mornings and we have talked of driving to Henderson to practice as a team. It's a 5 hour drive but we are all retired with not much to do. I called the alley in Henderson and they allow up to 4 people per lane for a team type practice. I think the max allowed per lane may vary from center to center but they do have the limits of every other lane and single lane only. Anyway, it may be fun to have 3 of your bowling friends practice with you. Some of the competitive and social aspects anyway.

It is looking like our centers will possibly reopen sometime between June 26th-29th. The center actually called the other day asking if there is interest in participating in an 8 week shortened summer league. We said tentatively yes.

We are going to open bowl first and see how seriously both the center and the other bowlers are taking the need for cleanliness. If we get in there and people are running around, hugging, giving each other "five", not wearing masks, not using hand sanitizer, and other high risk actions it will be tough to agree to a league. The virus isn't just up and gone, it is still around. The concerning spikes of cases in areas that recently reopened further supports the need to remain vigilant.

One thing is for certain. When I bowl, I will wear a mask the whole time and use hand sanitizer frequently. The bowling center is saying they plan to require masks be worn to enter the center and walk around, but not while you actually bowl. That defeats the whole purpose! It is going to be a circus, for sure.

Well it was a bit different than I expected. Instead of having each team bowl on one lane with an empty lane in between teams, we bowled typical league style on a pair with an empty pair of lanes in between. One team sat behind the active lanes and their opponents sat behind the vacant lanes. Only three person teams so there was plenty of room for social distancing. I think for the most part people behaved themselves.

As far as the bowling went, my team won two games and wood, mInly because our opponents were a bowler short. I missed one ten pin, one 7 pin, chopped the 3 off the 3-6-10, and left a bunch of splits. I was lucky to shoot 174, 197, & 191.

Did bowlers go up and bowl at the same time, or did they wait for one person to take their turn and then go up and do their turn...essentially so there was only one person at the ball return/console at a time? That is the intent of using a single lane instead of a pair...trying to make sure only one person is up there at a time.

Centers around here should be reopening by next weekend. I am still not convinced it is totally safe to do so, and think people are going to quickly undo all of the mitigation we have worked for the past 3.5 months. There is already a lot of push back around here all of a sudden with masks, and stores are starting to not enforce the wearing of masks despite requiring them. The general carelessness is getting a little disturbing.

Bowlers generally followed one lane courtesy. Yeah there were quite a few fleeting instances where two people would be less than 6’ apart, but that didn’t concern me as much as the fact that all the other bowlers were pulling their masks down to bowl. Of course my leadoff bowler’s husband was subbing on the other team so it really didn’t matter if they got too close.

All in all we are one of the few leagues actually finishing up the winter season. As for summer leagues, they are only running one each night. Two of the leagues are doubles, one is singles, one will be a youth/adult league, and one will be a four person team mixed league. I think the center really wants to see how thing will work on a small scale before going into the fall.

When I went bowling last Saturday, we (grandson, girlfriend, and myself were literally the only people there. About the time I started my third game, another guy and his son came in. We were on 13-14. They put them on 5-6.

Hand sanitizer everywhere. The employee told us to leave any house balls on the return so he could clean them afterward. No tap beer, or soda from the gun. Everything from a can or bottle. This place is usually spotless to begin with, but it seemed an extra level of clean that day.

As soon as teams were done with a pair of lanes a staff member was there wiping everything down.

The centers around here are allowed to open this Friday, and they are opening full tilt. Some centers are running tournaments as soon as Friday night, and some are starting summer leagues beginning Saturday. No rest for the weary I guess! Hope they are being safe and sane about it and not getting in over their heads. No word from any of the centers opening up about what the rules are (distancing, group size, masks, etc.) The state has specific capacity rules, but it initially sounds like the centers are going to be business as usual.

You should like the Glam. The DV8 Diva was a very popular ball, and the Glam is an updated Diva. Should give you a nice smooth look on the lane.

I may try to get in to bowl locally here this weekend. We will see. The people in this area are really suffering from cabin fever and eager for recreational activities, so it may be tough to get in before the 50% capacity limit is reached. It would be nice to get a few games in before league starts next week.

Talked to my PSO and he will be there but they have a meeting at 7:00 then summer league starts right after that so not sure i will get to bowl. i would be open to joining a team tonight if they need another person but if not no biggie.

i opted for the Glam cause i had been struggling on dryer conditions. My Black Widow Gold was my 'weaker' ball then my Brunswick Rhino pearl with a big gap in between. Hoping this Glam will fit right in there. And just bought 2 more numbers to try to win another ball this week....lol

My Squatch and BWG were almost identical with the BWG going slightly longer but more snap at the end of the pattern. I tried adding surface to the Rhino but with such a weak core and my lower revs it just wouldn't turn. 2 of my balls are still at the center in the storage room. I will probably retire the BWG now that i have the Glam. And the Glam is supposed to have a switch grip. Never had a switch grip before so will see how that is

Just got back. The new ball isn't drilled yet but it was there in the box. Not that it matters but here are the numbers on it. 15lb 4 oz. top = 2.7 oz. Pin = 3-4". I told him tonight I wanted him to get my stats sometime soon. Never had my PAP or anything checked. In his defense I had been experimenting with releases so never asked him to do it until I got something I was comfortable with.

So masks were optional and I didn't see anyone wearing one. They were walking around wiping things done a few times while I was there. We had 6 of us per pair (3 man teams). There were no restrictions but I tried to be careful about touching others or getting too close.

Used my Squatch all 4 games. Usually it falls off by end of game 3 but it held in there all night and the lanes were a little dry. Threw 10 in a row tonight ending game 3 with 7 then opening game 4 with 3. 167, 183, 246, 190. 2 of those strikes were Brooklyns but the rest were strong pocket shots

Great bowling!

Yeah, this is exactly what I am concerned about. I am supposed to start summer league next week but I am seriously on the fence about it right now. It simply amazes me that people are so quick to eschew masks in what is unarguably a high transmission risk environment such as a bowling alley. While wearing a mask does not completely protect the wearer, it does or at least appears to reduce the chances of being infected.

Agreed, it is more to protect others. If everyone would wear one the risk is reduced. The people not wearing them at all are the people putting others at risk if they are asymptomatic and unknowingly infected. It is a social courtesy at the very least. A way to say "Hey, I care about what is going on and am doing my part to help while I am outside my house."

The governor of Nevada just announced that, beginning Friday, it is mandated that everyone wear a mask whenever they are outside of their homes. While no fines or penalties have yet been announced, my cousin in Washington informed me that not wearing a mask is a major misdemeanor in that state. Can't wait to go to the bowling center on Friday and see how many of the idiots that I've been seeing continue to ignore logic and common sense!

Well won another ball last night...lol. posted more detail in the Ball section but figured i'd throw it in here since i had already mentioned it. Haven't picked up the Glam yet.
BTW-the drawing is based on the powerball. pick a number 1-26 and pay $10 for it. the first time i won i just picked a number i liked. this time i googled a random number generator and set the parameters 1-26 and it picked 23...lol. so i have won 2 out of the 3 they have raffled.

here is what is left. i plan to use the Glam to replace my Black Widow Gold. i rarely ever use the kingpin and hardly use the conspiracy. ideas or suggestions? all balls are layed out very similarly. i'm about 300-325 RPM and about 16.5 MPH at the pins.

Thanks!

Congrats!

Wow, those are all really strong balls. If you already have a Kingpin and a Conspiracy, that knocks out the Conspiracy Theory, Pitbull, Proof, and Prism Warp.

I have seen the Squatch Hybrid in use at my center, and it is very condition specific. You already have a Squatch, not sure if you would need the hybrid version as well.

That leaves the Uppercut and the Authority. Both pearls. Uppercut is symmetrical, Authority is asymmetrical. Authority would give you a look very similar to the BWG. The Uppercut would be similar to your Squatch, but the surface on it would pick up a little sooner in the mid-lane. It is a tough call.

If you want another asymmetrical pearl to truly replace the BWG, go with the Authority.

If you want another symmetrical pearl, and something stronger/flippier than the Glam, go with the Uppercut.

when i won the first one and took the Glam i was going back and forth between the Glam, Uppercut and Authority. i'm leaning towards the Uppercut unless somebody chimes in with a better option or reason why i shouldn't take that one.

My Conspiracy and Kingpin are very close together and so is the Squatch and BWG. The BWG seems to go slightly longer with a little sharper break than the Squatch but not by much. During the winter league (pre-Covid...lol) the Conspiracy and Kingpin were rolling out early unless I stayed inside the 10 board closer to the 15 board. My accuracy isn't as good inside for some reason and my ball pretty much goes straight then

I have a DV8 Pitbull that I have literally never thrown. I had a DV8 Endless Nightmare (an early predecessor to the Pitbull) and absolutely loved it. It was an absolute monster that let me really open up a lane. Went to put it in my bag one day, and found it cracked all the way around. That was the only time I was truly sad about finding a cracked bowling ball [normally I couldn't care less, but I loved that Endless Nightmare] Bought the Pitbull to replace it, had it drilled, and have never thrown it. Been having such great success with the Radical Ludicrous and Beyond Ridiculous that I haven't needed something as strong as the Pitbull.

I have a Brunswick Fearless, DV8 Turmoil 2 solid, DV8 Turmoil 2 pearl, and a Storm Soniq in storage that all still need to be drilled. I am not a huge fan of Storm, but got an amazing deal on the Soniq so I picked it up to try Storm one more time.

Summer league starts next week. I am going to go ahead and do it since I already committed to it. I looked at some data, and our surrounding 13 townships were only responsible for 7% of all of the cases in our county so far. That seems like a pretty safe number to me and says I would not be walking in to a powder keg of coronavirus. Hopefully our area won't see a huge surge and send us back in to stay-at-home orders. This fall/winter could get interesting, though.

Interesting story about wearing masks and bowling, Hillsborough County put in place a mandatory mask order recently. This order placed the burden of enforcing this order on business owners, It basically said the owners had to force people to wear masks or throw them out. If they didn't do so it could mean a $500 fine or up to two months in jail.. Needless to say the owners don't like that idea and are starting to fight it.

So this order is being re-evaluated by the board that put it in place, One of the business's that got their attention was the owner's of Brandon Crossroads Bowl which is a big bowling center here. I've bowled league and tournaments there several times.

The owner told how at league 10% of the bowlers quit on the spot and of the ones that remained, by the third game over half quit wearing them. Things got worse another night a guy was playing pool without a mask, they tried to get him to wear one, He broke a pool que over his knee, threw it at the bartender cussing her out before he left.

I bowled this past Saturday for the first time in 14 weeks. Masks are encouraged but optional. The center isn't even requiring them for spectators or non-bowling customers (which is technically a violation of state guidelines.) All the employees had on masks. I was literally the only customer in the center wearing a mask. I wore it the whole time I was there, including while bowling. Bowled for an hour, got in four games. Wasn't a big deal. Bowling isn't the most exerting of sports where you need to take in massive amounts of air like running, weight training, cycling, etc. You are on the approach for less than a minute to deliver the ball.

The mask issue is just getting out of hand. If people are asked to wear a mask, then they should wear the mask. It is the responsible thing to do. They are not going away for quite some time, so it is best to just get used to it. It is just an additional article of clothing. It is not a violation of your rights, it is not a political statement, it is simply something that should be worn out of respect to others. Similar to guys who walk around in the summer without shirts on. They have to throw on a shirt before going in to a store. Just throw on the mask. Maybe the new rules should be "No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service."

It isn't like cases of the virus are dropping. They are surging and states are starting to shut things down again. If people would maintain social distance, wear masks, and keep their hands clean this wouldn't happen. Instead people are running around like nothing ever happened, packing in to confined spaces, and generally doing whatever they want. I was in a convenience store/food mart/gas station yesterday. Huge sign on the door said "Masks MUST be worn while inside." People freely walking in and around the food mart with no masks on. Ordering food, getting coffee/drinks, etc.

Y'all, not to step on any toes, but you don't need to wear a mask if you have a medical or mental health condition in the state of PA. It can be very harmful to some people. I know of one girl who got a blood disease because she was forced to wear a mask at her job. Because somebody isn't wearing a mask, you shouldn't shame them for it, because maybe they can't or shouldn't. Some people are just plain mean to them, if they don't know the person's story. There are a lot of people with medical conditions out there. People should be more caring about their situations and not jump to conclusions.

That's understood, and if there is a legitimate reason why someone is not wearing a mask that is a whole different story. The problem is, many people (especially here in PA where you don't have to prove you have a medical condition) are using that as an excuse to not wear a mask in public. When there are 100 customers in the bowling center, and only 5-10 are wearing masks, that means there are 90-95 people with potential health conditions? Unlikely. Those people are making life difficult for those that truly cannot wear a mask. Businesses don't know if the customers are truly impaired or if they are just using it as an excuse to come inside without a mask.

Some doctors have even argued that aside from a severe skin condition on someone's face, there are no known health problems that can prevent someone from wearing a mask. One doctor even made the point that if you wear a scarf on your face in the winter to stay warm, you can certainly wear a cloth mask while you are in a store. Many times it simply boils down to someone finding the right type of mask for them and the fitment. Many people are wearing masks incorrectly, or way too tightly, and that is what is causing them to have issues.

Technically, I am one of those people that could use the excuse because I have asthma and some permanent physical mobility issues that make it difficult for me to put on a mask. Sometimes it can take me over a minute to put on a mask. However, I do it out of respect for other people and to be a responsible citizen. I have empathy for anyone that struggles day to day in just doing the basic things in life, as I have dealt with similar issues for decades. The people who take advantage of the situation, and selfishly refuse to do their part, are the ones that deserve criticism.

We can agree to disagree on some of those points. I think there are a lot more people who shouldn't wear masks because of a mental or physical problem than you do. I know of one person who suffers from depression, and the mask is more harmful to their mental state than it is good. Just because they can wear a mask doesn't mean they should. The entire ADA agrees with me, so a few disagreeing docs don't matter to me.

Also, nobody should ever be made to prove a health condition. Geeze. Is nothing sacred? People can get fined a steep amount just for asking, and rightly so in my opinion.

The mask subject is a very polarizing issue these days. It is turning in to some sort of political/constitutional rights type of issue when it is none of those things. It is simply a new way of life for American citizens and it is very difficult for people to adapt to changes in the traditional American lifestyle. There are people out there who will use any excuse available to not wear a mask. At the same time, there are certainly people who shouldn't wear masks. If that is the case, they should make every effort to go to stores during times set aside for at-risk customers or work with the store to get what they need in accordance with reasonable modifications afforded to them by the ADA.

The main thing to remember is that the purpose of the mask is to protect other people. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly obvious that people are more concerned about their comfort than they are helping protect each other from a highly contagious virus.

There are specific situations where someone will be required to prove a health condition (insurance policies, employers, benefit eligibility, etc.) Those situations are the exception, rather than the norm. Outside of those types of scenarios, no one has to prove anyone to anything. I never said they did.

Did you hear the CDC announce that asyptomatic carriers are “very rare”? If somebody has symptoms, then of course they should wear a mask. If somebody is able to wear a mask without posing harm to their physical/mental health, then by all means do. I'm just saying that those who can't or shouldn't are having a really tough time and people are being brutal to them. They don't deserve the backlash they are getting. It makes me angry at the way they are being treated. People should really think twice before judging somebody without a mask, as they may have a very good reason.

The asymptomatic studies are largely inconclusive and change regularly. A few weeks ago, the World Health Organization had to walk back the comments they made about asymptomatic transmission being very rare and basically admit that it is too difficult to determine. There are also pre-symptomatic people who are infected, go out in public for a few days before exhibiting symptoms assuming they are OK, and then all of a sudden have symptoms and find out they are positive. This virus is really throwing scientists for a loop and it is still a challenge for them to get a handle on what exactly is going on. It has also been determined there are at least three distinct strains going around. The strain that infected Washington State is different than the strain that infected New York, and the strain in the Upper Midwest is totally different than the other two. That makes it very hard to develop a vaccine.

A few studies have predicted that by the time this pandemic is over, upwards of 70% of the population will have been infected with it. That is 7 in 10 people. I hope to stay in the 30% that can avoid it, but one never knows.

It makes me angry at the way many, many people are willing to put other people at risk because they don't want to be inconvenienced by wearing an uncomfortable mask! For every one person that has a "good reason" for not wearing a mask, there are one thousand who just don't want to do it!

Wow. I got way more of a reaction with my chatting about masks than I ever did with my religious posts. Sorry folks. I didn't mean to rub anybody the wrong way. I was just trying to offer people a differing perspective. Apparently, differing perspectives get argued with.

I'll just stay out of it. My opinions don't seem very welcome, even if I didn't say anything wrong or say that people shouldn't wear masks. I don't think everybody shouldn't wear masks. I just hate to see people who can't wear one being put through Hades because of it. It's not right. That's all I was saying. Over and out.

Thanks Boatman. I noticed that you vanished, and thought that may have been why, but I wasn't sure. It stinks that often even the non-bowling posts get attacked. With respect to the mask posts, I wouldn't consider any of the posts personal attacks. It was more of a point-counterpoint discussion. No one was disagreeing with the assessment that there may be legitimate reasons why someone shouldn't wear one. Based on what everyone posted, I think we can all agree that if you have a legitimate reason not to wear one, don't wear one. If you are able to wear one, and it is mandatory in your community, then there is simply no excuse not to wear it. It is a very passionate subject for people and results in very lively conversations whether here, at the office, at the bowling center, on the news, or wherever it comes up.

The scientific data on this virus changes all the time, and there are numerous conflicting schools of thought on the whole thing.

If anyone felt belittled or bullied by any of the posts that wasn't the intention.

J Daisy: I apologize if I hurt your feelings. Please allow me to explain. I am a 71-year-old with asthma, diabetes, a stent in my heart, and immunosuppressant thanks to daily asthma medication. If I catch the virus, I am dead! I am also a retired Special Education teacher. I would never overlook a persons disabilities in relation to their' wearing a mask, or anything else. It just so happens that prior to your posting, I went to my local bowling center that does require everyone to wear masks, and observed several people who were wearing masks and would approach others (myself included), drop the mask below their mouths in order to be heard, and proceed to talk, well inside of the 6' social distancing guidelines. Personally, I really appreciate you sharing your views on this forum. Please understand that it's just words. Don't let your feelings get hurt. We are all just people, trying to get through this.

Boatman: I apologized to J Daisy. I am not going to apologize to you. You have a special quality: you really want to improve your bowling. Unfortunately, among the hundred or so articles that I wrote for BTM, I often talked about the need for bowlers to learn to use different bowling balls in order to adjust to changing lane conditions. Many bowlers took this advice waaay past where it was mean to go. I feel really guilty about promoting using the magic marble to improve your bowling. I never meant it to go this far! My teaching methods are not always gentle. For example, one time I was giving a lesson to a high-average bowler who was having trouble closing the deal in the tenth frame. Finally, he had a good game going and threw the first strike in the tenth. I said, "OK, what are you going to do next?" He replied, "Throw two more." I proceeded to hand him two bowling balls, and said, "Go ahead." Was that mean? Maybe. What did he do? He threw the next two, one at a time, and never again had a problem "closing the deal."

I am only trying to help you. If you would rather I didn't comment on your posts, please let me know, and I will refrain from posting. Whatever you decide, please don't stop posting. Let me know what you want me to do.

Neither of you guys offended me. Some people, like me, just really don't like to argue or have conflict. I'm sorry I started something... I really didn't think what I said was something anybody could argue with. I chose my words especially carefully to avoid conflict, because I've noticed some people on here seem to like it. It didn't work. I don't post much any more for that reason.

However, I would never ask anybody to not post or reply. They have the freedom to say what they want. I just think there's already so much stress and conflict in this world that I/we don't need more of it on a bowling forum, of all places. I'd rather not post than have people argue with posts they don't even disagree with!

I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope you stay well. I'll pray for you.

It is very difficult to enjoy league bowling these days. My bowling center does not require masks, has made weak attempts to socially distance customers, and is doing the bare minimum to effectively promote the safety guidelines put in place by the state. Last night there were 60-70 bowlers on the league. Only 6 or 7 of us were wearing masks. People were giving each other "five", sitting together at the tables {where you are certainly less than 6ft from the person next to you) and generally acting like it was business as usual.

I suppose I am just not as care-free as other people, but it would be nice to see people take this a little more seriously. It is a privilege to be able to be back to bowling, and the state has permitted bowling centers to reopen. It can also be taken away from us again at a moments notice if the surge of cases is too great or there is some sort of outbreak actually at the bowling center. Customers aren't being screened/temperature checked so it is quite possible for a league bowler to be in there and actively have the virus.

I will continue to wear my mask at all times and stay as far away from non-household members as possible, but there is definitely some inherent risk associated with being in the bowling center for 2 hours each week (as opposed to going to the grocery store for the weekly 20-30 minute essentials run and right back home.)
