Never would I have expected to get a run at perfection today at practice, but boy did it happen. I somehow got comfortable despite having the front 6, then 7, and on it went. I *knew* this was the one when I got 11 in a row, I've never gotten the front 11, ever. I throw the 12th ball, just a pinch to the right off my hand, and since it was urethane and that outside part of the lane was slick, a tenpin was my destiny. But, not just your ordinary stone 10-pin. It taunted me, it was wiggling and wiggling, I thought it might even fall.

Still trying to comprehend what happened haha. But hey, I'll take that any day. New high game.

It's been so long since I shot a 300 in practice, that now when I tell people I "never shot a perfect game"...I usually forget to even say, "except once in practice." I used to say it all the time...almost as much to remind myself that I was capable of it as to let them know I was capable of it. But it seems like FOREVER ago.

According to Pinpal, it was March 8th, 2015 and the ball was a Hammer Rhythm. It was the 5th of 7 practice games I rolled that afternoon.

Still, I remember it was a great feeling...kinda like, "Wow! I'm actually capable of that!"

That's awesome!

My F-in-law got a 299, also back in the day when you got a ring for that. We actually have the 5 pin he left (the owner ran down and grabbed it) - we have it on a shelf in our living room. :)

My best friends dad shot a 299 way back and got a ring. He passed away and my friend has it now.

That's really cool, I never knew they used to give out rings for that.

Now-a-days the first award is "free", then you can purchase additional rings/trophies/plaques if you want one for each subsequent 300/800/900. There are some bowlers where I bowl that have over 100 sanctioned 300 games. That would get mighty expensive buying a $90 ring every time you bowl another 300. Someone I bowl with had 4 300 games over the course of 6 weeks. If that is happening all over the country the USBC would lose their shirt trying to send awards out.

I think the ABC (now USBC) was losing money on awards and was challenged with either significantly increasing annual dues, or cutting back on awards to keep the fees reasonable for members. The patches, plaques, certificates, etc. for triplicates, dutch 200's, all spare games, high league average, most improved bowler, 600 series, 700 series, 800 series, 300 game, 298 game, 299 game, etc. were just too much for them to sustain. Much of the awards distribution has transitioned to the local association level...and even those awards are just inexpensive trinkets. I would prefer they not send out any awards, and use the dues to sponsor more local tournaments or even make donations to local charities.

Yeah I have heard that our PSO has over 40 sanctioned 300's. That would be alot of fingers for all those rings...lol. I know one summer league he had 3 in about 4 weeks

Yeah that is great. I always said that I would never bowl a 300 cause I'm not consistent enough but way back in the 90's I did throw 12 in a row but it was over 2 games...lol. I'd probably be heartbroke with a 299 but after it sunk in I'd be pretty pumped. I threw a 279 last fall and left a pocket 6. Ball was a hair high but close enough that 3 of 4 times it would have fell...lol. I was pumped but frustrated at the same time. The other night I rolled a 233 but it was so much better than that. Started with the front 6 then a pocket 7 then left a 4-6-7-8 then a 7-9 (both opens) then adjusted and finished with the last 3. While I was happy to roll a 233 and happy that I made the right adjustment I was frustrated that the front 6 only resulted in a 233. Bowling is a funny game...lol

You'll get it! :)

I've had a 290 (spare, then sheet) and followed that up with the front 6, so my wife was teasing me that, heck, I did 15 in a row, why not put them all in the same game? LOL

It absolutely is a goofy game - but fun! :)
