My center has an annual Thanksgiving Eve tournament that starts at 11:00PM. I have never entered it but saw the results posted today. 126 entries. They said only 1 300 last night but the guy rolled an 857 (first 3 games but 1104 4 game series). Geesh. Don't know the guy but he is listed as a 220 average which is the max so no idea what his average actually is. 2nd place was a 177 average that rolled 268, 211, 233 and 196 (910).
Not sure but looks like the next possible tournament for me won't be until at least 1/2 but probably not until 1/16

Bowling in a tournament on Saturday. First tournament i have bowled in since April. It is in a different house than I usually bowl. I don't expect to cash, but it will be something different.
It is a 10-9-8 format. First game is normal scoring. 2nd game is 9- pin no tap. 3rd game is 8-pin no tap. I am going in scratch. Bowlers getting handicap tend to dominate these things but it will be fun for a change of pace.

We have had a few scratch tournaments in our area but I'm not even wasting my time with that. Heck, I did the math for last nights tournament and to finish 10th I would have had to average 219.5 over 4 games based off last years 192 average. Not saying it couldn't happen but the likely is pretty darn low...lol

I average 217 and rarely do tournaments of any kind. There is always someone who comes in and averages 240-250 for the day. I'm only doing this one because it is the inaugural tournament of a new format. However, I anticipate needing an 830 or better to have any chance. With scratch and handicap bowlers being in the same division, that could be a tall order if a high handicap bowler gets hot.
It is not unusual in no taps around here for there to be a few 900s. I was in one a few years ago where after qualifying there were three 900s, and there needed to be roll offs to determine the seeding of those bowlers for the stepladder finals. It was ridiculous.
Earlier this year I bowled in a no tap Pro-Am with PBA national and regional players. The winner had 890 and the minimum series needed to cash was 840. I missed cashing by 12 pins.

Never tried a no tap and don't think i'd like them just from the sounds of it.
The 1st seed in that tournament had over 220 average so bowled scratch and had an 1104 4 game series so that's 276 average. I would have had to average 254 scratch to beat that. Unreal. It's an 80% handicap based off 220 average.

No-taps can be fun IF you go in as they're just for fun.
One league I was in - our sweeps night was no-tap. Bowled with my wife and in-laws. My mother-in-law had VERY slow speed, suitcase (so hard to control the change of direction) - she did REALLY well and actually beat me (with her handicap) even though I threw a 300 (only one "tap" in there so it was a REALLY good game for me anyway) - I had no handicap so she beat me something like 320 to 300.
Her smile was SOOOO big! :) Half the league was around us on the last frame to see her beat me.
THAT was fun. I'll never forget it (of course, she doesn't LET me forget it! LOL she still has the printout)
You have to go in as though it's just a fun time. :)

It’s amazing how when bowling in no tap how you suddenly either get actual strikes or an inordinate amount of 8 counts. When you least care about corner pins the start falling. LOL
