So when I got the Altered Reality the PSO said my thumb pitch wasn't quite right but didn't know why it had been that way so drilled me a new insert with more pitch added to test it. Noticed today that right before release I feel a nerve 'twinge' in my thumb right at the base like it is getting pinched or something. Plan to mention it to the PSO but am going to test it with a different insert to see if it does it then too. Anyone ever experience this or have any info on it? Is it a pitch issue or maybe the insert has too sharp of an edge at the top?

This happened to a couple of bowlers in the family due to having poorly drilled equipment from a PSO who was otherwise locally very well regarded. One of them ended up needing surgery on their thumb. They both switched to a different PSO who made some changes to their thumb pitch and span and have had no issues since.

In fairness to this PSO he drilled this insert up as a test to try the different pitch. Possibly if we make the pitch permanent maybe he would shorten my span a little to compensate. Just won a ball yesterday so will talk to him about it.

In the past, I had this problem if there was not enough bevel on the thumb hole. Bevel in... pain gone.

That could likely be it. I'm gonna see if it does it again tomorrow then swap in my old insert to see if it does it with that. If not then I know the insert is causing it so will go from there. Problem is I have a big thumb and there isn't alot of meat left around the top of the insert to grind but they should be able to bevel it a little better

The bevel can continue beyond the insert to the actual hole, it won't hurt a thing

I'll take a look tomorrow. I could probably grab a piece of sandpaper and round it myself

So Rob may have been right. Last week before league I took my dremel and beveled the front lip a little more to round it off better and used it all night that night and no issues. Thanks Rob!

I chamfer the holy hell out of my thumb due to the same nerve thing. There is nothing that feels more un-nerving (no pun intended) then hitting that nerve on the first couple of shots.

Agreed. I didn't feel it until my downswing just before I let go and when it hits it's like getting shocked. Almost want to just let go at that point.

I also used to use a piece of fabric tape around my thumb at the base. Not far enough up the thumb to affect fit, but just gave a little extra "cushion". Usually took it off somewhere in the first game after the nerve calmed down.
