HOLY CRAPOLY!

Down at the end (2 pairs down) a couple of friends utterly steamrolled another couple of friends. Just ROLLED them.

one absence so 169. Chris bowled 299. Daryl bowled 247. Dustin bowled 300. 1015 total scratch. The other team, with two absences, still bowled over 750 . . . but it was over 200 pins difference. I mean . . . whaddya do when the other team rolls like THAT??? LOL

Then Dustin bowls ANOTHER 300 in game 2. Was just ON it. Then his lanes broke down and he didn't keep up so finished with like 775. But still - 24 in a friggin row. Fun to watch.

We had a bowler in our league roll 265, 254, 266, but his teammates had only one decent game apiece.

We got steamrolled last night but not cause the other team was great, it was cause we sucked...lol. But looked at the stats from last night and scores were down across the board. Our scratch team average is about 1050 but our high scratch last night was 954

A few years ago we bowled the same team that beat us last night and 2 guys on their team both bowled 300's in the same game. Yeah, they smoked us that night too...lol

And again tonight. I had 722 and teammate had 727. Other 3 teammates weren't as good but the other team was on a roll. They were in next to last place. Their team scratch average was 913. They rolled 1041, 953 and 990 scratch. We had 1031, 1007 and 993 scratch but were spotting them 91 pins. We lost all 3 games. Our scratch team average was 1014. Yeah it was a combo of a few of our guys struggling but the other team was crushing it

This type of scenario has been happening more and more at our center as well. Not sure if there has been a softening of conditions leading to higher scores or bowling is just getting "easy" for people in general.

There is really no way to avoid it. Even if your team had bowled average the 2nd and 3rd games you would have lost.

On my head to head scratch league there have been increasing cases of bowlers just simply shooting the lights out. It's crazy.

well, it IS easier for a low-average bowler to bowl UP than it is for a high-average bowler to do so; and it's easier for a high-average bowler to bowl DOWN than a low-average bowler to do so.

Think about it - for a high average bowler to get a split is semi-disastrous. For a low-average bowler, it's normal. For a low average bowler to get a strike is HUGE; for a high-average bowler, it's normal.

For a high-average bowler to miss a 10-pin in the midst of striking is a 21 pin penalty while it can be a 20 pin boost for a low-average bowler.

Now - my "bus" that I watched was two very good bowlers getting VERY hot and the third bowling very well. It's just that they normally don't do it all three at the same time! LOL

Yeah I get all that. Just always seems to happen to us. Our league is divided into 11 1/3's. The first 3rd ended a couple weeks ago. We finished 3rd highest in scratch pins and 2nd highest in handicap pins yet finished 5th in standings. That tells me that when we lost we got smoked even though we bowled good.

It’s not so much a low average bowler getting a strike. It’s when they get two or three in a row.

Yeah, one of their guys has a 185 average and rolled 676 against us the other night. He was the only one on that team that was excessively over their average but the rest were slightly over theirs.

Holy crow - he was hot.

I don't actually consider 185 to be "low average" - that's mid-average and I would consider them to be able to pull off big nights with the right conditions.

Heck, right now I'm 182 (fighting through wrist and thumb injury - I'm stupid. Won't take time off, just more and more tape . . . ) and while doing brackets, I routinely see 180-190's pull off mid to high 600s.

Now - if I saw a 120 avg bowler pull off a 650+ . . . THAT would be something!

Yeah I'm not saying 185 is low, just a huge jump to 676 and it always happens against us

You're just inspirational to bowl against!

LOL - my father-in-law used to actually COACH the team that we would bowl against (if they needed it) . . . sigh.

Well not a steamroller but we got steamrolled...lol. High series between all 10 on our pair was a 593 and of the 10 of us 6 of us have at least a 200 average. Got no carry and no consistency. Part of my issue was me. I just wasn't into it and really didn't feel like bowling. Timing was off until early in 3rd game when I finally got my crap together. One guy on the other team has a 203 average and rolled 495 tonight.

ouch - you got steamrolled by the LANES! LOL (laughing sympathetically. . . and somewhat sinisterly. . . heh)

So last week we lost all 3 games. Team we bowled is one of the lowest averages in the league. They had highest handicap game and highest handicap series against us.

Last night we had 3rd highest scratch game and 3rd highest scratch series and still lost 2 of 3. The team we bowled against had the highest handicap series. Can't make this stuff up.
