Son and step-son started summer league tonight. Step-son has never bowled league and never had his own ball until a few weeks ago when I gave him my Radical Squatch pearl. He bowled 109, 126, 139, 156 for a 132 average. My son only has 21 league games under his belt and had a 124 average last season. Tonight he rolled 153, 112, 110 and 175. They went 3-5 tonight. Not bad for rookies that are just learning. Both throw 1H thumb in. Step-son is a lefty. My son has a Raw Hammer hybrid that he bought new. Each only have 1 ball, no spare balls. Summer league is 2 man teams with 2 games against one team then move to a different pair and 2 games against another team. I have to bowl next week since my son has to go to Chicago next week for a work trip. Step-son is 35 and son will be 30 in a few days

So I bowled tonight since my son is out of town. Rolled 849! But it's a 4 game set...lol. We lost 3 of 4 and went 1-7 again. I rolled 226, 206, 213, 204. Struggled to find the pocket. Used the Zen Soul all 4 games. Lanes were a little on the dry side. Probably won't bowl again for about another 3 or 4 weeks.

I bowled 2 and 3 weeks ago but not last night. Boys bowled and won 1 of 4. I probably won't bowl again until 6/6 depending on when my sons baby comes...lol. He will probably be done for the summer after that so I will likely be finishing out the season

Summer league is over. My 2 boys finished their first league. Well the one bowled youth league 20 years ago. The finished at 132 and 130 averages. I finished at 206 with 28 games but I only subbed for them. Finished winter league at 197 so an improvement there. Let's see if I can keep it up.
My goal is to have both of them over 150 by the end of this season, which I don't think will be hard. The one is a lefty so gave him my old Squatch pearl and he is throwing a nice ball but still inconsistent. He tugs one every once in awhile. Like really tugs. He threw 2 or 3 gutters last night and a few where he only caught the 10 pin. He is trying too hard to guide the ball. The other is having trouble staying under and behind the ball. He releases directly on top of the ball so it barely hooks.
Winter league starts 9/5. We started our own team with us 3 and 3 others

Yeah - working with my son-in-law the same way. He's terrified of dropping it so he slowly lowers the ball (instead of dropping it into the swing) and then tries to guide it. It's taken work - and pulling his sofa cushions onto the floor - but he's finally getting it. :)

When I first started I had that problem (guiding the ball).
For me, it was an overcorrection when I was trying to stop "lofting" the ball.
I started bowling on wood lanes where the fronts were just terribly chewed up. So, most of the decent bowlers in that center lofted the ball past the fronts. Once I started bowling in a league with synthetic lanes...I couldn't get the ball to hook to save my life. So, I worked with RobM on trying to slow down (I was firing it 19-21mph) and let the ball read the lanes...no more lofting (the ball can't hook in the air). But it took some time to make that adjustment.
