In a league that used last year's average for 9 games, isn't there an USBC rule about using the same average for all 3 games? For instance, someone bowls 3 games first night, and 3 games the 2nd week, and only bowls 2 games the 3rd week. Then the 4th week would be the same entering average for all 3 games even though it would be the 9th, 10th and 11th games bowled.

I could have sworn there was a rule on this, but I'll be darned if I can find it....HELP please!

We faced the same issue this week. The anchor bowler on the other team had only 7 games bowled in the first three weeks. Our league secretary ruled that we should use the same handicap for all three games. Note: this is a non-sanctioned league and the secretary bases his decisions on 50+ years of bowling in leagues that may or may not have been sanctioned.

They would use entering average for all of week 4. Then in week 5 their current average would be used.

If it says 9 games . . . it should be 9 games, shouldn't it?

Ok, found a USBC document about entering averages. It seems to indicate that in this case, for week 4 the entering average would be used for game 1. Then after that 9rh game is complete, the bowler's average would be recalculated and the handicap adjusted for the 2nd and 3rd games based on the 9 game average.

Who knew? You learn something new every day 😊

And who knew that our center uses USBC rules even for unsanctioned leagues. We thought we had swept all three, but they recalculated the other team’s handicap to use in the last game and we lost the game.

Good question! So many long time regular posters suddenly just disappear without warning. Some, like yourself, reappear. Bowl1820, in my time, on several sites, has always been there and an encyclopedia of information
