Rhino Page Heads List of Stars to Compete in PBA Tour Go RVing Match Play Championship
Seattle, Wash. - 3/11/2009

Defending champion and 2007-08 Professional Bowlers Association Rookie of the Year Rhino Page of Topeka, Kan., will head a field of the world’s best bowlers who will return to Norwich, Conn., March 18-22 for the Go RVing Match Play Championship at the Norwich Bowling and Entertainment Center.

After four previous television appearances in 2007-08, Page defeated Jack Jurek of Lackawanna, N.Y., 244-220, in the championship match of the Go RVing Classic to win his first Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour title.

“It feels so good,” Page said after taking home the $25,000 winner’s check last year. “I didn’t expect to make this many shows this year, but after making the fourth show I was wondering when I was going to get my first title.”

The Go RVing event will feature the “best of seven” single-elimination match play format which will cut the 64-player field down to two who will compete in the ESPN-televised three-game, total pinfall championship match. Semifinals from the previous evening will be taped with highlights airing on the finals show. The players will also have to negotiate two different lane conditions throughout the event —the Chameleon pattern on the left lane and Cheetah on the right.

In addition to Page, the tournament will feature a star-studded field including a number of competitors recently named to the list of the 50 greatest players in PBA history as part of its 50th Anniversary celebration. Players on that list who are expected to compete are all-time PBA Tour titles leader Walter Ray Williams Jr. (45 wins), 2009 PBA World Championship winner Norm Duke, 2009 H&R Block Tournament of Champions winner Patrick Allen, Parker Bohn III, Pete Weber, Parker Bohn III and Don Johnson Buckeye State Eliminator winner Chris Barnes, among many others.

The Go RVing Match Play Championship is part of the PBA’s 50th Anniversary season “Extreme Swing,” which also includes the Ultimate Scoring Championship, GEICO Plastic Ball Championship, Etonic Marathon Open, and the Don Johnson Buckeye State Eliminator. The creative format events are meant to test the greatest bowlers in the world in different areas of the game, provide television audiences with a fresh look while providing education on pertinent aspects of the game.

The live ESPN-final match for the Go RVing Match Play Championship will be conducted March 22 at 1 p.m. Eastern.
