RENO, Nev. - In her first United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships appearance, Nicole Evans of Buena Park, Calif., put together her highest series ever to take over the lead in Division 2 Singles.

Coming in with a 165 average, Evans rolled games of 180, 248 and 218 for a 646 series. Division 2 consists of bowlers with averages between 150 and 169.

As she made it through her first tournament at the National Bowling Stadium, Evans was not only taken in by the event and center itself, but her fellow competitors on the lanes. With the USBC Queens starting on April 25, many of the top female bowlers in the country joined Evans during her doubles and singles event on Thursday.

"I was actually pretty nervous," Evans said. "Between the environment around you and all of the great bowlers here, it can get pretty intimidating."

Despite those nerves, Evans followed a simple game plan for success.

"I just threw the ball and got it going," Evans said.

Evans added a 439 series in team and 467 in doubles for a 1,552 all-events score.
