Michigan’s Bo Goergen rolls record 862 series to take USBC Open Championships Regular Singles lead
Las Vegas, Nev. - 6/5/2009

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (June 5, 2009) – Four days after narrowly missing a chance to bowl full-time on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour next season, Bo Goergen of Midland, Mich., rolled the highest three-game series in USBC Open Championships history at the Cashman Center on Thursday.

Goergen, a 48-year-old right-hander making his 31st consecutive USBC Open appearance, struck 32 times on the way to games of 299, 299 and 264 for an 862 series in Regular Singles. He broke the record of 858 set by John Janawicz of Winter Haven, Fla., in Regular Singles in 2004, and he knocked Ron Vokes of Racine, Wis., out of the 2009 Regular Singles lead, despite Vokes’ near-record 857 performance on April 25.

"It's absolutely incredible. I couldn't believe it was happening," Goergen, who left the 7 pin standing in both 299 games, said to USBC’s on-site media representative, Matt Cannizzaro. "In anybody's wildest dreams, to shoot back-to-back 299s at the national tournament is unbelievable."

Goergen added 700 in doubles and 628 in team for a 2,190 all-events total, third behind Vokes’ record 2,321.

On Sunday, Goergen finished ninth in the sixth annual Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour Trials at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich., posting a 45-game total of 9,336 pins on five different PBA lane conditioning patterns. He finished 43 pins behind Tim Mack of Indianapolis, who claimed the eighth and final exemption to bowl on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour during the 2009-10 season.

Earlier in the week, the PBA Central Region member advanced to the Round of 16 in the PBA Regional Players Championship before being eliminated by eventual champion Joe Ciccone, 2-1, in the best-of-three round.
