View Full Version : Opening ceremonies kick off PABCON Youth Championships

BOGOTA, Colombia - Bowlers from 17 countries were celebrated Sunday before a standing-room only crowd at Salitre Bowling Center during the opening ceremonies of the 2009 Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships.

More than 120 bowlers will compete in the PABCON Youth Championships, which features two divisions, one for bowlers 20 and younger and the other for bowlers 16 and younger. Junior Team USA will compete only in the under-20 division.

Alberto Ferrar, past president of the Colombian Bowling Federation and PABCON, threw out the ceremonial first ball, knocking down nine pins to officially kick off the tournament. He was joined by World Tenpin Bowling Association President Kevin Dornberger of the United States and PABCON President Jose Guandique of El Salvador in welcoming the participants, coaches and supporters.

The competition begins with singles on Monday morning and continues with action in doubles on Tuesday, trios on Wednesday, team on Thursday and Friday and concludes Saturday with Masters. Medals will also be awarded in all-events.

Junior Team USA begins competition at 11 a.m. Central when Geoffrey Young of Denton, Texas, Daniel Spink of St. Louis, Mo., Brittni Hamilton of Webster, N.Y., and Christine Bator of Warren, Mich., bowl singles.

Jenn Boisselle of Brandon, Fla., and Kristie Petravich of West Palm Beach, Fla., compete at 3 p.m. Central, while Chris Pierson of Waukesha, Wis., and Jake Peters of Decatur, Ill., bowl at 7 p.m. Central.
