I've been bowling only three months and I have a 135 average. Is that good or bad for someone with my amount of experience.

Thats not bad for someone just starting out. I think my 1st average was a 135ish.

I've been bowling for ~3 months now approximately. I am averaging about 155 the last few weeks (steadily climbing). I just got a new ball that is working for me great though, so I think it will jump soon.

My step dad started on the league with me, and he is averaging about 135 right now too. He's been bowling the same amount of time.

I can not rember what mine was when I stared but what you have is a realy strong starting point.

Yeah, 135 is respectable for a new bowler. I think I started out in the 130s-140s.

I think a 135 is a nice start. It will establish a benchmark or baseline so you can improve your skills and average for there.

If I remember correctly, my first year's average was 105.

Keep in mind that the fog of memory may be playing tricks on me. I do still have my AJBC 125 Game patch from that year.

JJ,

Speaking of AJBC patches, I still have all of mine!

Sweet - did you also earn YABA patches as well? I'm not sure anyone could have timed it just right to be able to get all 3 as a junior, but AJBC, YABA, ABC, USBC wasn't too hard.

Anyone have patches from other organizations?

JJ,

No I am sorry that I don't. I can't remember when the change from AJBC and YABA took place, but it was well after my junior bowling eligibility was over.

1982/1983 maybe? It wasn't much later than that, if anything.

As a "newbie" don't let yourself get frustrated. Where you are at is a nice start for your skill level. Don't worry to much about striking as that will come with experience. Concentrate on making your spare as that will do the most to raise your average right now

very good point stormed1 and it still is key as you move onward with your average.do you have a ball yet? if not a well fitted ball/shoes will jump your scores by alot, also bowlers are generally super nice people.ask loads of questions.and i learn alot from this forum and watching the big boys and girls on the pba :)

main thing is keep your chin up and have fun!! the mental side of bowling is so huge,if things arent going well try to keep control of your emotions.
