Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong turned back Filipino Chester King in the sudden death final, 279-236, to rule the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic recently at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowling Center at Robinsons Mall in Malate.

King, who beat Thai Phoemphun Yakasem and Malaysian Daniel Lim in the semis to earn the right to meet Wu, forced the do-or-die match by frustrating Wu 256-271.

But Wu found his rhythm just in time in the rubber match and rolled back King to clinch the crown and the top prize of P150,000.

Wu enjoyed a twice-to-beat edge after finishing on top of the step-ladder semifinals by rolling out 1966 pin falls on an eight game series.

King, an Asian Championship gold medalist, actually finished third in the semis with 1835 but was able to face Wu in the finals after pulling the rug from under his more fancied rivals.

Earlier, fourth seed Yakasem beat Malaysian Zatil Iman, the only female bowler to reach the semis, (223-206) and fifth seed Singaporean Remy Ong (223-190).

Filipino bowling great and Hall of Famer Paeng Nepomuceno, Pualo Valdez and two-time defending champion Syafiq Ridhwan of Malaysia missed the cut after finishing 1761, 1741 and 1714, respectively.

Euro-Med Laboratories, Bevida Distilled Drinking Water, Storm Products Inc., Ark International, Philippine Airlines, Heritage Hotel, City Garden Hotel, Manila Bulletin, Paeng’s Midtown Bowl, Bowlmart Training Institute, Philippine Bowling Congress, EGI, Premiere Insurance, MOC, Roto Grip, AZO, and Wave Products backed the tournament.
