SEATTLE, Wash. ( Aug. 5 , 2009 ) – As the Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour continues its Midwestern swing, defending champion Brian Brazeau of Ocala, Fla., heads a list of the world’s top senior players who will compete in the PBA Senior Decatur Open Aug. 8-11 at Spare Time Lanes in Decatur, Ill.

In dramatic fashion, Brazeau came from a 23-pin deficit in the championship match to defeat PBA Hall of Famer and two-time PBA Senior U.S. Open champion Wayne Webb, 245-244, in last year’s Decatur event.

“My only strategy was to stay focused and relaxed,” Brazeau recalled of his 2008 win. “When you’re bowling a Hall of Famer and champion like Wayne Webb, there’s no secret to success other than throwing a lot of strikes.”

Among some of the PBA’s 50 greatest players expected to compete in Decatur along with Webb are Hall of Famers Tom Baker, King, N.C.; Dave Soutar, Bradenton, Fla. and Johnny Petraglia, Jackson, N.J.

Other notables in the field are Hall of Famer Mark Williams, Beaumont, Texas, who won the recent Senior Lake County Indiana Open; 11-time Senior Tour champion Dale Eagle, Tavares, Fla.; 2009 USBC Senior Masters champion Dale Traber, Cedarburg, Wis., and Ron Mohr of Eagle River, Alaska, who won the first two events of the 2009 season. Also competing will be Decatur’s own Gene Vincent who won his first Senior Tour title in 2005.

The Decatur stop is the ninth of 12 events leading up to the PBA Senior World Championship which concludes the 2009 Senior season as part of the PBA World Series of Bowling Aug. 31-Sept. 5 in Allen Park, Mich.

The field of approximately 100 players, ages 50 and older, will begin competition with eight-game qualifying blocks on Aug. 9-10 at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The field will then be cut to the top 32 players who will advance to best-of-five match play beginning Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. Match play continues all day on Aug. 11 with the Round of 8 and championship rounds scheduled for 6 p.m. Practice and pro-ams will take place on Aug. 8.
