Ball Drilling Classes

I'm always interested in getting deeper into my hobbies. I was thinking about learning to drill bowling balls, but I haven't a clue as where to go or how to get started.

You guys got any suggestions?

If you are in good with your local proshop they could teach you.. I learned from my proshop.. If you are very serious about it you could go to Kegel Training Center in FL as they have a proshop class.. they have a 1 or 2 day class

Kegel training center classes are taught in the world class headquarters of Kegel. The bowling pro shop is equipped with all of the latest in technology. With drill presses from Jayhawk, Innovative, and Precision you can learn on the press that is closest to your home center. Learn fitting techniques using the ball fitter or the Bill Taylor fitting wheel.

The full certification class is a 3 day training course. The small class size allows us to work with anyone from beginning to advanced.

Hand Fitting Techniques
Layouts for Optimized Performance
Bowling Ball Dynamics
Pro Shop Merchandising
Surface Management
Matching up to sport patterns
Basic Shop Duties like sanding, resurfacing, and plugging

Primary Instructor - Randy Stoughton (Bio)
Randy was formerly a driller on the truck for the PBA and was also a tour rep for Ebonite before joining Kegel. With over 35 years of experience Randy can teach you the best methods to use for your customers!
3 day course $1200 for the first person $600 for each additional student
1 day course $500 for the first person $250 for each additional student.
All Rates are per person plus 7% sales tax.

That sounds good, but it will have to wait awhile. Do you have to be certified to drill balls in a pro shop?

nope.. Nothing it needed but a drill press and bits..lol Its really not too hard to learn.. and really not hard if you have the basic concept down.. its just a little math and geometry

Eons ago when I was your age, I learned enough to plug and redrill some of my balls. But that was way before what we have now. I can do it... just need a road map!:D

lol I started with plugging and resurfacing with the ball spinner.. then after bugging then enough and plugging enough balls she showed me how to map out balls.. That was about 5 years ago.. I still resurface and plug but it would take a few min to get all my drilling to come back to me.. I could map mine equipment out really easy just from having so many balls drilled and being back there with my current driller.. but to go drill someone elses may take a little while.. and the fact i get the same layout on 90% of my balls makes it easier too..lol

Heck, the only ball spinner we knew was on the Harlem Globetrotters! Resurfacing was chuck it in the ball polisher... And put 4 quarters in it! Lol. Just figure out the span, what size holes, and maybe move the top weight around. Aaaah, the simple life!
