Ball specs – 15 lbs 4 oz, 3.70 top weight, 2.5-inch pin.

The Mutant Cell was punched with a modified Rico layout. Instead of the pin being on the grip center, I raised the pin ½ inch above the grip center mid-line. Using dual angle terminology, the layout would be a 5 ¼ inch pin, 45 degree drill angle and a 75 degree VAL angle. The x-hole was drilled into the mass bias. This would be the equivalent of a P4 hole. The cover was left OOB, which is 2000 abralon.

The Mutant’s roll and motion is very readable and forgiving. With the slightly higher RG and smaller differential, the Mutant is just slightly longer than the original “Ball of the year” Cell. The Mutant still reads the mid lane very well and is a little stronger with more continuation on the back end than the original. The Mutant’s overall hook for me is 3 to 4 boards more than the original Cell.

The Mutant is a great addition and will function well as the replacement for the original Cell. You still get that predictable and forgiving Cell roll with great hit and carry in a slightly stronger shell.
