Monday I bowled in my first ever tourney, a 9-pin no tap at my local house. I don't normally bowl here, however. My league is close to my work, 45 minutes away from home. When I have come to this house for practice, I do horribly. I average around 160, but I am lucky to get 140 there. Well, apparently all that has changed.

Bowled a 227-198-175 for a 600 series. With my handicap, I was at 751. Not enough to get posted (right now, they are only posting 800+), but dang.

Game 1: X X 7- X X X X X X 81 (9-pin strikes in the 8th and 9th, all others were 10-pin)

Game 2: X X 63 X S81 8/ 8/ X X X 8/ (9-pin in 2nd and 10th)

Game 3: X S62 X 8F X X 8- 72 X X X X (9-pin in 5, 9 and the first 2 of 10)

The foul was stupid on my part; my focus went from my mark to the ball returning on the track.

Bowled all three with my JigSaw, which I have had the worst time with on these lanes. On this day, like I said, it was just "different".

I have 2 more dates for this tourney, and after this performance, I am thinking maybe I need to start bowling at my local house more often. Either way, I found I really like these 9-pin tourneys.

Oh, one guy on the lanes next to us rolled a 298! That was awesome to watch.

pin no taps are fun. I laugh because i throw a ton of 9 counts in league but in no tap tournaments it's always natural strikes or 8's

Thanks Bill. I love that ball. I have to learn it sometimes needs to rest and give The Sauce a workout, but that Saw hits so hard. Hee hee. :)

Bowled the second set, and really did well. 268-170-228 for a 666. With handicap, an 823, which might get me on the leader board. Second game wasn't so good, but the first I was in the zone, for lack of a better word. Third game would have had a 238, but I hit a sticky spot on the approach and stepped over the foul line. I got to bowl this with my coach who came up, and was told I was rolling a really nice ball. He hit the same sticky area, so I didn't feel so bad.

Game 1: 7/ X X X 8/ X X X X X X X (9-pin strikes in 3, 6, 7, and the 2nd 10th)

Game 2: X 71 X 63 7/ X 8/ X X 81 (9-pin strikes in 6th and 9th)

Game 3: 81 X X X X 18 X X X X XF (9-pin strikes in 2,3,7,9 and 2nd 10th)

Switched to my Hammer The Sauce ball on the left lanes in game 3, and it worked very well.

Had a guy on the lanes next to us roll 2 300's. Two turkeys for his Thanksgiving dinner! :)

Final standings were posted tonight, and I placed 16th, winning $24. More importantly to me, I qualified for the top-60 9-pin tourney after the Christmas and Valentine's Tourneys. (They take the top 20 from each of the 3 and compete) That impresses me more than the money, considering this was my first ever tourney. It will definitely NOT be my last. :D

OK. I'll toot my own horn, too. After being in a hiatus, against my will, for about 20 years, I assumed the sport. After about 4 months of league play, I joined a local pro shop tournament. When I arrived at the check-in time I noticed all these guys roling in with their 6-ball bags, bowling shirts with "Master League Champions" on the back, and and an ora of "ringger" hanging all over them. As it turned out none of them placed (out of about 28), and I placed 3rd, with a 645 series, in the seniors division, and all I had on to advertise who I was was having on a VW bug-in t-shirt. This places a new perspective on where I am at in this sport, not bad.
