So there's this guy at my local house that always shows up for 9pin tourneys and handicap tourneys and has a book avg of 150ish. He rolls games in the 250's and up. Always wins with hndcp. Thoughts??

Sounds like me, but I have a book average of about 192 and I'm not a sandbagger. I actually bowl better at a tournament at our house, since they always lay fresh oil on the lanes. I usually bowl better when the oil is fresh. Our house lets people bowl on the lanes that have been freshly oiled before the leagues. So when we get to them, their kind of screwed up. I have a hard time adjusting to these conditions and will average around my book average. Put fresh oil and my average increases.
Have you looked the Bowl.com to see if he has ever had a high average?

I hate sandbaggers and there are definitely a few out there.
Does this guy bowl in more than one league and/or house? Does he ever bowl in a scratch league and/or tournament? If you can dig up enough "DIRT" on him and he really "IS" doing something that's not quite "KOSHER" and you have evidence, you can talk to the head of the tourneys and have his average adjusted. I've heard of guys using different names in different leagues they bowled in, for that very reason.
I guess some people have just got to have an edge, but that ain't right.

don't think he bowls league at my house. I only see him at 9pin tourneys and hndcp tourneys. I would love to win over him, cuz it would make it that much more enjoyable! :)

If he has done this several times in yyour house ask the tounaament director about rerating him based on his tournament scores

Sandbagging has been discussed once or twice before on this site. As for this guy, sounds like he's most likely doing it, I agree if it has been done multiple times see if you can get him rerated. There are definitely some sandbaggers out there! Does he shoot 250s in non-9pin tourneys?

I dunno. Like I said, I only see him at the 9pin and hndcp tourneys. I just wanted to see what you all think. It gives me motivation to beat him straight up! We got a tourney on the 19th. Cant wait :)

How does he do in the handicap tourneys then?

It's not hard to score a 250 at a 9 pin no tap. After all, hitting 9 pins is considered a strike. That person may have a 150 average, because he has trouble picking up single pin spares.
But as Strike Domination asked, how is he on the handicapped tourneys? If he's shooting 250's, then I would ask the tourney director to rerate him. There's no problem in that. I know of a guy who just bowled in our 205 and under 9 pin tap and placed 2nd. The tourney directors couldn't find his name, so until they can find him, then wil NOT allow him to bowl in the no tap next year.

This guy bowls high in the hndcp tourneys also. Don't get me wrong, I'm not whining. I really want to beat this guy. Just wanted to get your takes on it. The 19th can't come soon enough! lol.

Is this guy throwing all 9-pin strikes? Or true strikes? If he's consistently throwing true strikes then I'd suspect he's a sandbagger. Otherwise I'd say that he probably has trouble striking and converting spares during league.

nah, this guy throws pure strikes. alot, I mean we all get some of those 9pin strikes, but this dude is good. I'm more like hitting alot of those 9pin strikes! lol. :)

How much cash is he earning in these 9-pin not tap tournaments?
Bowlers who truly average 150 are bowlers that tend to leave more multi-pin spares because they are inconsistent at hitting the head pin on the first ball. They are not bowlers who will consistently shoot 250+ in a no-tap tournament because they are going to leave - on average - three or four multi-pin spares every game.

it could just be he sucks badly at spare shooting. 30+ years ago i averaged 154 with 6 strkes a game but the problem was i could not pick up a 10 pin. I learned how to pick up the 10 and went from 154 to 197 in one season. That being said he sounds like a sandbager although he could be doing it "legally" by bowling league in a "brickyard" of a center
