The first U.S. Women's Open telecast, scheduled for this Sunday, Sept. 7, will now follow the postponed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on ESPN.

As Tropical Storm Hanna moved toward the Richmond, Va., area, the host of this week's Chevrolet 400, the event was pushed back from Saturday to Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT, in turn moving the U.S. Women's Open to a tentative start of 5 p.m. EDT following the live NASCAR event.

The U.S. Women's Open will return to its regularly scheduled time slot on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. EDT and will continue each Sunday until Oct. 5.

"ESPN has assured us that the U.S. Women's Open will air in its entirety," USBC Vice President of Media Pete Tredwell said. "As a result, if the NASCAR race runs past 5 p.m., the U.S. Women's Open telecast will be delayed until next week so bowling fans won't miss a minute of the action. If that happens, the entire five-week series will be pushed back a week, concluding on Oct. 12."

The U.S. Women's Open started with more than 180 competitors, who battled through 32 grueling games of qualifying Aug. 1-4 at Brunswick Zone XL in Romeoville, Ill., before the top 16 advanced to the single-elimination bracket that will be featured on ESPN.

The field of 16 of the most talented women bowlers in the world was divided into four sub-brackets, and on each of the first four telecasts, four players will face off for a spot in the finals.

The field includes Team USA members, former professional stars, international standouts, collegiate champions and top amateurs, and the event concludes with a climatic title match that makes bowling history.
