need help understanding open and closed shoulder

Don't see any picture so here's a diagram that might help.

When you adjust to lane conditions by moving either to the left or to the right, your shoulders must point
either out away from the lane, or in toward the lane.

This is just the basic open and closed shoulders, there are some variations. But this should give you the idea.
