About washing your balls in a bucket with soap and hot water. Can you do the same with a spare plastic ball?

You can, but it's really not necessary. The whole reason for 'washing' your equipment is for oil extraction. Plastic absorbs literally next to no oil, so there's no real reason to soak/sweat it out.
