looking for new ball and roll

question #1 :currently i throw the diamond back with a down and in roll. i am looking to going into a ball that snaps at the end into the pocket now for an additional ball reaction. i am thinking of the" hammer corner" " ebonite mission" or maybe the "storm reign". what are your thoughts on these balls. question#2: i think i already know the answer but can they take any ball and drill it to snap at the end?

Hello, I'm new to this forum but have been around bowling for a while and can compete on a high level. To address your first statement, first I have to say it all depends on your ball speed, your rotation and the amount of oil you are bowling on. Since you say that you play "down and in" for the most part, I assume you don't have many revs or have excessive speed. This is fine but it just means that you may have to go with a little bit of a stronger drill or a more aggressive bowling ball to "snap" the way you want. I would suggest any mid-priced pearl bowling ball with a fairly aggressive layout.
Yes they can drill any bowling ball to delay using up it's energy until later but it depends on the core and coverstock to determine if it is a "snapping" motion. A dull ball will tend to hook earlier (arc) and a pearl ball will tend to snap.

There is a lot more that goes in to ball reactions but I hope that helped!:D I would suggest talking to your pro shop and letting them help you on the ball choice.

So you're looking for a ball as strong as the Diamondback that snaps more, or does it really matter how strong the ball is as long as it snaps? For the former, I think the Mission could be a good one, other options might be the Pure Swing, Virtual Energy, or Cell Pearl. For the latter, definitely the Reign or Raw Hammer Burn.

Yeah, you can drill a ball to be more skid/flip or more rolly, but you don't usually get too far away from the original purpose of the ball. I also think it's kind of pointless to try getting a ball to do what it wasn't intended for, better to choose the appropriate ball.

thanks for the responce that you gave me.although i have been bowling for a long time( but gave it up for about 10 years) i am fairly new to the new bowling equipments that are out there. all of my old equipment(hammer) was urathane until i was given the diamond back. insted of having the ball re-drilled, i am looking into getting another ball that will give me another shot at the pocket due to different oil patterns. i noticed that the hammer "corner" and the "mission" do carry(hit) different because of the cover stock,weight block and drill pattern (most likely) and since i am a looking into getting a new ball, that i would go into something like those 2 balls but just trying to get some other input on balls that some of you use out there. i know i will have other questions coming up later (like age and weights) so i'll see you later.

The reign is a great ball for snap in the back end. I love mine, and I usually hate pearlized equipment. It is clean through the heads, and crushes the pocket. I just shot a 288 with mine in a tournament last weekend. I own 13 balls, and the Reign of Fire and Reign is my favorite 1, 2 punch I own. You will not be disappointed. Other options for you would be the Virtual Energy or Mutant Cell Pearl (about to be released).

As for the second question, you can delay the response of a core by drilling it to do so. It is not a good idea to buy a ball and try to drill it to do something it wasn't made for. Imagine that you want a ball that snaps in the backend, you should buy a pearlized ball, not buy a matte and polish it. I hope that example helps.

yes, i am leaning more towards the reign pearl or the hammer corner. i got away from sanded balls because i have a tendency to throw them harder. it's a mental thing i guess and it takes me away from my style of bowling when i use a sanded ball.

If you're referring to the Jigsaw Corner it's pretty much nigt and day difference from the Reign. I believe the Corner is sanded by the way. It's also more ball than the Reign and even the Diamondback.
