Another increase in membership in Sport Bowling leagues meant another rise in Sport Bowling 300 games and 800 series in the 2007-08 season completed July 31. Meanwhile, the number of similar achievements in regular competition increased only slightly.

USBC Sport Bowling members earned recognition for a record 104 perfect games and 23 800 series for the period from Aug. 1, 2007 through July 31, 2008. Those numbers were up from 60 300s and 8 800s.

There were a total of 250 Sport Bowling scores earning major recognition. These included 36 for 299 games and 87 for 11 strikes in a row. Sport Bowling membership hit an all-time high of 31,582 in 2007-08, up more than 13 percent from the 27,834 of 2006-07. Those members bowled in 892 leagues, up from 693 in 2006-07.

"We are pleased in the continued increase in Sport Bowling membership and resulting increase in Sport Bowling honor scores," said USBC Vice President-National Governing Body Neil Stremmel. "The small number of honor scores from this portion of our membership shows it is quite an accomplishment and requires good shot making skills to produce an honor score at this level. Congratulations are in order for these select few individuals."

USBC members in regular leagues and tournaments earned recognition for 52,229 perfect games, up just 672 from the 51,557 of the 2006-07 season. During 2007-08, there were 16,872 approved 800s, up only 237 from the 16,635 of the previous season. Those scores dropped for the first time in two decades in 2006-07.

In all, USBC recognized more than 1.5 million achievements in 2007-08. These included 57,491 for 11-strikes-in-a-row that now includes former honor scores 299 and 298. The most awards for special achievement came in the 200-game category with 266,088. Next was 75-pins-over-average game with 241,220.
