You probably have no idea what that is. Today is Shrove Tuesday, also known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras. It is a big tradition in Detroit, Chicago, and other cities with large Polish Catholic populations to celebrate this day with paczki (pronounced poonch-key) which, in their simplest form, are jelly filled donuts. This is to use up the food items like sugar, lard, and fruit before the start of Lent. The Lenten tradition is to eat no food that "gives pleasure." Me, I give up religion for Lent.
