View Full Version : What's my fourth ball?

Hi, all:
Going into my second winter of league bowling -- alright!
I'm a right-handed stroker with average speed and low revs, high track on the ball. My current book average is 144. The primary ball I have used is the Storm Tropical Heat Red/Blue (Pearl). I can usually roll this ball up the 6 board with good results (effective angle into the pocket) and my scores continue to rise and get more consistent.
My goal is to have four balls for my "typical house shot" bag. I would like to stay with Storm brand, as I really enjoy them.
Along with the Tropical Heat, I have a plastic ball for spares and just ordered a Victory Road (pearl) to try something with a stronger core so that I can experiment standing further left on the approach.
So ... what would you suggest as my fourth Storm ball in the bag to round out my kit?
Many thanks for your help.

Virtual Gravity Nano. :)
Good call Trex, this is an awesome addition...

Definately add a solid coverstock ball. Because you have normal speed with lower revs, I would suggest either the Storm Marvel, Reign of Fire, or Nano. All three are great balls, solid coverstocks, and more aggressive than what you have. Lower rev bowlers tend to like asymetrical cores, because they help get a little more on lane action. Good luck with whatever you choose! If it says Storm, I am sure you will love it.

I would have to disagree with the NANO. While asymmetric cores do help you get more hook, they are also harder to control. Personally I would go with the Victory Road Solid. It obviously will be a great compliment to the VR Pearl. It will be more aggressive than anything else you have. If you're only bowling on house conditions at this point, there's really no reason to have anything higher performance than that.
As Daniel said, Marvel and ROF could also fit the bill, but I believe VR Solid is the best bet!

Thanks, fellows. So the idea(s) you all are sharing would be for a fourth ball that is more aggressive and better in heavier oil and/or still further left on the approach?

You don't necesarily have to go more aggresive, but definately a solid coverstock. It would be a compliment to your inventory to have a more aggressive ball though. That way you have a full range of equipment. Good luck!

I would look at the Marvel as it is strong but smooth and predictable.. The Victory Road solid would be a little longer and more angular at the break point. I would worry that the Nano might be a little too strong and burn up on you

Thanks, Stormed1. I'm getting the Victory Road pearl drilled right now, so I'm waiting to see how that works out before I make a decision on the fourth ball. I like the looks of what I read about the Marvel.

A house shot doesn't typically demand a 4 ball line-up but your arsenal so far is lacking a heavier oil solid ball. Nano would be a great ball for that but I don't think I could personally recommend it for a standard house shot. My Mutant Cell solid definitely isn't a ball I use on a house shot. VR Solid would be a good choice if you want to stick with Storm. If you want to pursue sport leagues or tournaments, though, a Nano or Theory would be "solid" choices (pun intended).

Understood and thanks for the perspective, Ducks.
I've only found a limited amount of time to roll the Victory Road (pearl), but it's a definite change from my Tropical Heat, so my education continues!
