Online video service will feature live streaming
SEATTLE (October 13, 2008) — The PBA announced today that it has added new and exciting features to its popular online video service, Xtra Frame, for the 2008-09 season which kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 19 with the Chris Paul PBA Charity Invitational presented by the brands of Ebonite International at 1 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
Xtra Frame, which replaced Strikepass last year, is the only place on the web for behind-the-scenes videos of the PBA Tour, including interviews with bowling stars, special features, coverage of the Senior Tour and Women’s Series and archived ESPN telecasts. Fans can currently tune-in to Xtra Frame to see Women’s Series and Tour Trials interviews and behind-the-scenes activity from the PBA Celebrity Chris Paul Invitational.
Once the 2008-09 season starts, Xtra Frame will be adding new content six days a week. Fans will be able to tune in on Fridays (or Saturday as is the case with the PBA World Championship, 66th Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open and the Don Johnson Buckeye State Eliminator Championship) and watch Round of 8 or Round Robin action streaming live from every tour stop.
“We are constantly seeking creative approaches to enable our fans to access action and information from the PBA Tour,” said PBA Commissioner Fred Schreyer, “and we know they are going to enjoy the interactive changes to Xtra Frame.”
Each week Xtra Frame will stream approximately four to five hours of content that won’t be available anywhere else. Also, following the ESPN telecast, Xtra Frame will feature a live interview with the winner, where fans can email questions for Jeff Mark to ask.
A completely new feature for 2008-09 is the live streaming of five Tournament Qualifying Rounds. Fans can watch as locals and aspiring pros battle it out to win a spot in the tournament, and ultimately take on the best in the game, the PBA exempt field. For many bowlers this will be the first time they will be bowling “under the lights”.
All of these live streams will also be archived for playback. Xtra Frame re-airs all of the ESPN telecasts throughout the season, making it a go-to destination for international bowling fans that don’t have ESPN coverage in their country.
