Youth bowlers will compete for thousands of dollars in scholarship awards in the Fourth Annual Chris Barnes Thanksgiving Youth Classic, to be held Nov. 26-30 at AMF Showplace Lanes in Euless, Texas.

The scratch tournament, certified by the United States Bowling Congress and conducted on challenging USBC Sport Bowling lane conditions, will award scholarships to at least one in every 10 bowlers entered. Participants also may compete in an optional USBC Junior Gold qualifying event for an additional fee.

Named after the USBC Sport Bowling spokesperson, the Chris Barnes Thanksgiving Youth Classic includes two age-based divisions. The high school division, open to all high school aged youth bowlers whose class has not graduated, will be divided into two sections, 181 average and over and 180 and below. Both sections will feature a six-game qualifying round. The single section Grades 5-8 division will feature a four-game qualifying round.

The nine qualifying times range from 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29. One of eight bowlers in each high school section advance to the semifinal round, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29. The top eight bowlers in each high school section advance from the semifinals to the eight-game match play finals, slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. The four-game Grades 5-8 division finals are scheduled for 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29. There will be no bowling on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27).

First place $1,500 scholarship prizes will be awarded in each of the two high school sections, along with multiple other place prizes to total thousands in scholarship awards. All awards will be held in USBC's SMART (Scholarship Management and Accounting Reports for Tenpins) Program until winners are ready to use them for their college expenses.

In addition to the tournament, Team USA star Lynda Barnes will give lessons (by appointment only) on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The fees are $25 for a one person, 30-minute lesson or $40 for two people.

Now if they could do this at other locations across the country with different Pro's at each locations, that would be awesome.
