I've made the step from dorky bowler who doesn't know anything to that weird kid at school that REALLY likes to bowl. I've also made the jump from a 10lb plastic ball that hooked about .2 percent of the time to a 12lb tropical storm that hooks all the time. My first ball is drilled for a conventional grip. The new one is drilled for a fingertip grip and has the colored grips. There seems to be some friction against my fourth finger towards the outside by my nail. I know that's really vauge sorry. Is it just getting used to the fingertip grip or do I need to have my pro shop guy look at it? If anyone has any tips as to how to transfer over to a fingertip grip from a conventional grip I'd love to hear them. Also if anyone is familiar with the Storm brand?

Hi Shortstuff,
Welcome to the forum. I am fairly new myself so I will leave your question about the fingertip grip on your new Storm for some of the more experienced bowlers. I have a new Storm Reign that I just had drilled about three weeks ago. I think Storm is an excellent manufacturer but I am sure others may like other brands as well. The Tropical Storm should be a great ball for you. It will be good for getting used to the fingertip grip and a great ball to learn controlling the curve produced by a more aggressive ball than the plastic ones.
Having not bowled for many years, I am just learning these things myself.
There are some excellent bowlers here and an abundance of information about bowling. Keep in mind, there are many more like myself here that are more a beginner than a teacher.
If I can find some of the articles that were excellent for teaching the proper techniques for bowling, I will post them here for you.

Shortstuff,
Here is some very good information for any bowler, not just a beginner. This information was provided by "bowl1820" and they have helped me a great deal so far and will continue to be a big benefit as I improve.
Go to the "General Bowling Discussion" category and find the thread titled "so much to learn". There is a post there by bowl1820 that gives you 4 pdf files that are excellent. I opened each one and saved then to my own computer.

The way I release the ball gives me a huge thumb callous that I have to see to now and again. Something I'm happy enough to live with and stops anything other than the muscles getting sore from too much bowling :) I do however take a Dremel to it now and again which always makes my wife shudder :p
