I need new shoes so suggestions are welcome.
I'm ideally looking a shoe that'll last, is comfortable on wide feet, is breathable (the synthetic shoes I had before were mega-sweaty) and that has replaceable soles and heals. I know the Dexter SST's are popular. There are various types of these now so are any better than others? Are there any good alternatives.
Thanks.

littlelegs,
I think it was King-Pin that was talking about getting new shoes. You can pull up his posts and find it. It may have been on a post asking "what shoes do you wear". I can't remember. I just got a pair of inexpensive "Dexter" shoes when I started. If I remember King-Pin correctly, he had SST 5s and got SST8s. I think he said he preferred the SST 5s. Better check that out, my memory isn't what it used to be.
Not that expensive has to be the best but I did notice some expensive shoes at a great sale price just yesterday. Something like $149.00 shoes for $69.00 or so.
If I can get my bowling more consistent, I will probably get good shoes before next fall league season.
Good Luck on your hunt.

littlelegs,
I did some checking for what I remembered reading earlier on this site.
I am sure you have already looked it up but the post I had mentioned was in the equipment review area. The one I remembered was started by King Pin, but the shoe discussed as being really loved was the SST 6, not the SST 5. This was from comments posted by Coach 3G and Stormbowler 13.
I checked the big discounted items and found two $100+ pair of shoes at half price or better.
I did read a review discussing a brand with replaceable heels and soles but that replacements could not be found. The individual bought a complete new pair just to get the replacement parts.
Good luck

I have owned a few different styles of shoes. I had the Dexter SST 7s and didn't like them. I loved my SST 6s and I really, really love my SST 8s! The 8s fit a wide foot really well, and due to a larger base for the slide pad, I feel much more balanced. They are expensive, but are worth every penny.

Thanks for the replies. I'm planning on spending a little more on these on the theory that they'll last. So it looks like SST8 is the thing to head for but if budget becomes a little light and I can find a heavily discounted pair of SST6's they'll do too :)
Obviously other suggestions are still welcome too.
Now that you mention that thread Tom I think I remember reading it when I first hit this board. I'll pop back and re-read it :)

i have some friends who have the sst8s and they claim that the shoes are really stiff and hard to walk in. after hearing this i bought the sst6. couldn't be happier. also etonic has some nice shoes out comparable to the sst8s, and they look much nicer too :)

It looks like bowlingball.com has some good discounts going on right now.

That's worth knowing about the SST8's - thanks. My feet can and do blister easily in stiff shoes so something to bear in mind when ordering. That and SST6's are a little cheaper :)
I'm probably getting a bowlingball.com voucher from the in-laws Bri. Anything bowling I order online usually comes from there :)
