Hello all. I was hoping to order some new finger inserts and a couple of thumb slugs to try out tonight. My question is which slug size to get? My thumb's comfort size is 63/64" round and I'm struggling between 1 1/8" slug and 1 1/4" slug. Never used one before, so I'm a little clueless. I currently have a vinyl insert in my ball with 1 1/8" drill, but the problem is the insert is 61/64" and I've outgrown it a bit, it barely fits even without swelling now.

In a nutshell, I'd like to get a 1 1/8" slug for a 63/64" thumb, but I'm a bit afraid it's going to spread the urethane a little thin. Any help is very appreciated!

No way you need 1 1/4 or really 1 3/8. You want to put basically 1" hole in a 1 1/8 leaving 1/16 walls. I have a 29/32 thumb and use 1 1/4.

What about just using some 80 grit in what you already have?

If you using a vinyl thumb insert now, why not just get one with a 63/64 hole they have them. Be easier than getting it slugged and drilled.

Another option is get a switch grip installed, though they cost more.

Well thanks for the replies. I like the vinyl insert decently, but even when it fit around my thumb well, it would still hang up in it. Now that my thumb has grown up a bit more, it's even worse. The general consensus seems to be urethane slugs are the most comfortable in the end; smoother release, consistent feel, etc. The only reason I really like the vinyl at all is because it's pretty easy on my dry skin. So to wrap this up, for a 63/64" thumb, should I get 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" slug since 1 1/8" is pretty much out the window :P

I always use 1 3/8" urethane slugs in my bowling balls that way you have a
little extra room for opening up the thumb hole when and if needed.

Normslly in the shop with a 63*64 thumb hole we would use a 1 1/4" slug. It allows for bevel without getting into the ball
