SANTIAGO, Chile - Team USA's Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., sit in first and second, respectively, after the first of three squads at the 2008 Pan American Bowling Confederation Women's Championships.

Johnson fired 1,482 for six games, an average of 247, while Kulick totaled 1,441 as the pair easily led the opening field of singles competitors.

Both players will have to wait until the final two squads compete today to determine whether or not they will receive medals.

Competing on Squad 2 is Team USA's Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of North Richland Hills, Texas. Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev., and Diandra Asbaty of Chicago will compete on the final squad.

Johnson got off to a strong start with games of 258, 279 and 224 and closed with 248, 215 and 258. She led from the first game and never looked back.

Kulick had games of 257, 249, 214, 268, 209 and 244 and leads Canadian left-hander Jennifer Park, who sits in third with 1,362.
