I am organizing a bowling party fundraiser in two weeks. I will be putting together teams of 4 based upon averages. I know that I could make it more "fair" if I used a handicapping system, but I think that we have a wide enough range of averages that I can make up teams that would be fairly even. My question is: When adding up the total averages for each team, what would be an acceptable margin between teams, i.e would it be fair to put a team with a total average of 480 against a team with a total average of 450?
Thanks!!!

Given if you have already made up the teams. The answer is simple. You match the two highest average teams against each other, then the next two highest so on and so forth and don't worry about the difference in averages. You can't match them up any better than that.
or instead of trying to match them up, just have the teams draw for lanes and let the chips fall where they may.
How are you doing this fundraiser? is it like a tournament? going to have a 1st,2nd,3rd etc. place winner?
bowl three games and cut to the top 8 with a bracket style final?
