Hello, I'm looking to get a couple storm balls, I'm thinking the Crossroad and the Vivid or VG nano or VG nano pearl. Which one do you recommend to go with the Crossroad? Thanks

I had my eye on the Vivid before I went with the Nexxus f(P+R), but the Vivid came out a week later and I liked the Nexxus just as much when reading about the two.. Anyway, a guy I bowl with has the Vivid and he loves it. I'm sure its a great ball.

You cant really go wrong with any of those lol. It really depends on you, where you bowl, etc.

Personally, I prefer the VG Nano Pearl, the Victory Road is also solid. Another solid Storm ball for a good price is the Too Fast.

Frantics are really nice for the price too!

The Virtual Gravity Nano Pearl is a great ball on short oil or after the shot transitions. It doesn't react well on fresh oil, as all pearl asymetricals don't. The Nano solid is a great ball, you will see a more arcing hook with it, than with the Vivid. The Vivid is an amazing ball for backend reaction and power through the pins. Personally, I like my Vivid more than the Nano, but it may be because it is the shiny new ball in my bag ;)

Vivid and Crossroad are a great 1-2 punch. Also, everyone should have a Marvel Pearl in their bag. Best ball on the market, in my opinion!

I love my Marvel Pearl too! I think the Defiant is the best ball on the market, but the Marvel Pearl is in the top 3 for sure!

What did the pro shop guy say was wrong with the Vivid? Why did it suck?

He was on the way out of the shop to leave for a league so he didn't explain it, he doesn't like the nano covers...my 2 options is Vivid and Crossroad or Taboo Jet Black and Elevate....

Sounds like he had a bad night bowling and he blamed it on the ball instead of himself

or maybe the Marvel Pearl and Crossroad?

I hope another company is got him on contract to say that, because the Vivid is far from sucking. In fact, I shot a 267 with mine last night. Along with a 236 with an open with my Defiant, and a 269 with my Marvel Pearl. The Vivid is an amazingly strong ball, that reads the midlane enough, but not too much, and has more power into the pins than anything I have seen since my orignal Virtual Gravity. It is amazing! Maybe he meant it stinks? Because the fresh mint scent is a bit strong in the nostril :)

Damn, sounds good, he recommended the Defiant because he doesn't like the Nano covers but you think I should get the Vivid, Crossroad 1-2punch or Crossroad and something else?.....

I think the Vivid makes a better starting ball for the Crossroad. I think that is your best option for a 1-2 punch. I find my Defiant and Marvel Pearl to be a good 1-2 punch also. I think the first two are better for most people.

Alright thanks!! Prob go with the Vivid and Crossroad then. One question tho, What are your dislikes on the Vivid?

I haven't found one yet, other than the scent being a bit stronger than I like. I have thrown my Vivid on our house shot with great success, and shot excellent in a tournament with it on Sunset Strip sport pattern. I will be bringing it to Nationals with me too. We will see how long the coverstock lasts, but right now it is holding up great!

Nice, awesome...is the versatile?

It is very aggressive, so light oil may be a problem. I don't think it is versitile like the Crossroad, but with some coverstock changes, it still reacts really well, so I think it can be verstile. As far as layouts that work for it, I know that it is very nice under multiple different options there. The thing I like best about it is that if it reads early, it still retains a lot of energy through the pins, and if you get a little carry down, it still reacts well for an asymetrical. My Invasion always had a problem with over/under reaction, but I have had no problem with the Vivid in that way. In fact, I think it out performed my expectations. I am going to try and get my video review out for it soon. You can check out my reviews on the crossroad, and other balls, on youtube. My name on there is DMoneyOregon.

If you're going to drill up anything along with the Crossroad, go with the Vivid or VG Nano.

What would you suggest as an aggressive ball to complement an ebonite lanebreaker...I know thats a little older, but I got a good deal :P

Are you picky with companies or no? If you're looking to stick with Ebonite, maybe a Mission X. If you'd ask me for anything, I would say a Roto Grip Defiant or maybe a Storm Vivid. Both very hot selling balls on the market right now.

The Defiant would be better for a match the gamebreaker. It will be more aggressive for sure, but the RG numbers and differential are close enough that you should be able to play them as a 1-2 punch.

Not picky at all about the company, defiant was actually what I was thinking. Maybe when a little more money comes in :)

I want to make the Defiant my next ball, but my Critical Theory is aggressive enough for the time being so I don't need to move to anything now. I might drill up an Outlaw or Bandit sometime this summer but I might just stick with my Critical Theory and practice a lot this summer. I don't do any leagues, I just bowl for fun and to work on things.

Hmmm, not sure why the pro shop said that. Ball choice entails a lot of variables such as style, ball speed, lane conditions, etc. Personally, I push
DV8 as much as I can because they work extremely well for me. That being said, I know several people using the Vivid and they love it

I just got the Defiant so My arsenal right now is the Defiant and Crossroad!! what do you guys think I should add? maybe a marvel pearl..frantic..?? Thanks
billf
03-27-2012, 09:40 PM
Defiant is for heavy oil, Crossroad for medium so how about a Storm Natural Pearl for the dry to medium-dry conditions? If you decide on the Frantic, try getting it drilled differently than the Crossroad giving you another line/angle to play.

I just posted in the "Frustration" posts that I'm bowling with a 6 pound, predrilled Ebonite Zoom ball. bowl1820 suggested that I move up to an 8 pounder in order to improve my game. Are there any (relatively) inexpensive brands that you recommend for a beginning bowler? Which brands are best for performance on ordinary sport lanes? Thanks again for your help!

Given the weight you are talking about, I assume you throw a straight ball. In that case, I suggest a Storm Polar Ice. They seem to hit a little harder than other plastics, in my opinion.
DanielMareina
04-05-2012, 02:18 PM
I agree with the Bill. The Polar ice is a great option. It is a Urethane coverstock, so it will react a little bit. This will be a good way to give you a ball that isn't too much for you now, but allows a little room for growth. Best of luck to you!

I'm still trying to decide what I want to get for heavier lanes and fresh oil. I dont know what I want yet, but once I start making more money I'll talk to my proshop guy. Really looking at defiant, outlaw, or critical theory though.

Not the Outlaw. The back end reaction isn't nearly as good as the Critical Theory. From what I have seen and experienced, the Outlaw leans more towards medium oil. the Defiant is one sick puppy. With that ball you better have oil or you will be upset. Don't worry about too much oil with the Defiant. It could hook in the oil spill from the Exxon Valdez.

I've been throwing the Critical Theory, and Crossroad lately. I love both of those balls. Critical Theory might be a bit much for the house that I bowl in. I bowl on wood lanes, and with the warmer weather that we've been getting, the CT is forcing me to make large moves earlier. The Crossroad is a bit easier to read on my lanes. I've been invited to join a team on synthetics next season, I will have to see how these balls work out in the new house.
