I am an above average bowler but I don't average 200 pins. Can someone tell me, how to consistantly string along strikes in a row, to score better? I can get strikes here and there but turkeys can sometimes be a struggle.

The only true answer is practice.

Stay calm, focus and repeat the shot. Also remember strikes are only one part of the game.

Spares will make that 200 game/ave.

When you find the secret let the rest of us know. ;)

I assume that since you're an above average bowler that you have the basics down. Your steps are consistent, your swing is consistent, you hit your target most of the time. In short every thing is consistent except for pin carry.

Bowling is all about Newtonian physics. To maximize the chance of getting a strike, your ball needs the right amount of momentum (mass times velocity) to knock down 10 pins. It also needs to hit the right spot from the right direction. People who have studied ball reaction have found that the optimum angle for a strike is approximately 6 degrees and that a 14 or 15 pound ball should be hitting the pins at least 15 mph. Its also thought that the ball should be just about at the end of its hook phase when it hits the pocket.

My guess is that you need more angle or more speed.

its hard to bowl alot of strikes in a row if you think of it just think of hitting your mark, and lt the ball do the rest of the work.

as bowl sead spares can get you 200 games its true i have jsut finaly got into being able to make evrey spare i get other then most splits and my games have jumped big im avg in the 140s and recently for the past 2 weeks every time i practice i have been avg 200+ and cant rememebr the date i avg a 240 something in 3 games my series was a 727 , games where 260-253-214.

that was the help of my spares max strikes i had in a row was 4 i jsut could not get that 5th one cause i thought of it and it made me miss my target and mess up my release

I have a Hammer Arson that weighs 15 pounds. I love it! I normally throw the ball about 13mph. I hit the pocket a lot of times and I either leave the 7 or the 10 pin. I do carry more with this ball than my Lane #1 Gemstone. I have a coach, that I work with, once a month who is very good. A former professional bowler from Louisiana, who played on the senior tour with Earl Anthony. His name is Avery " the Ragin Cajun " Leblanc. Nationals are in Baton Rouge. I didn't get to play but I have visited the Rivercenter. It's cool!!!! Ed

Ed, hitting the pocket is only part of the battle. Entry angle, deflection, pin action are all important factors. Ball speed at the pins in a major factor in those three items. At 13 mph at the pins you should be able to create adequate results in those three categories. Has your coach given his insight? Are you able to alter your axis tilt and rotation to alter your entry angle?
Are the 7 and 10 pins on consecutive shots on the same lane? As I'm sure you know, the adjustments for the 7 and 10 are opposite each other and if you're leaving 7's on one lane but 10's on the other it will be easier to figure the adjustments.

This article should help you a bit. It talks about 3 point targeting, but also tells you how to find the best area on the lane to strike based on oil length. http://bowlingknowledge.info/images/stories/slowinski_btm_june_2007_36-41_3point_targeting.pdf
