SANTIAGO, Chile - Powered by Kelly Kulick's perfect game, Team USA won the trios gold and silver medals in record fashion Wednesday at the 2008 Pan American Bowling Confederation Women's Championships.

With three textbook strikes in the 10th frame, Kulick of Union, N.J., shot 300 in Game 4 and helped lead her teammates Diandra Asbaty of Chicago and Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev., to the gold medal with 4,037.

Team USA's Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of North Richland Hills, Texas, Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, took silver with 3,906.

Both trios teams topped the previous PABCON trios record of 3,770, set in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1997 by the United States' Becky Kregling, Lucy Giovinco-Sandelin and Lesia Moos.

Kulick's perfect game propelled her to a 1,432 individual total for six games, an average of 238.67. Macpherson added 1,311, while Asbaty totaled 1,294.

"I was really nervous because it's been so long since I've bowled for Team USA, and I've never had 300 in international competition before," said Kulick, who is on Team USA this year for the first time since 2001. "It was exciting and more importantly it gave us some momentum when we needed it most."

Dorin-Ballard led her threesome with 1,396 for six games, Johnson added 1,277 and Barnes totaled 1,233. After competing on the first of two squads, Dorin-Ballard, Johnson and Barnes could only watch as numerous teams made a run at their total.

Mexico's Sandra Gongora, Lilia Robles and Adriana Perez came up short, however, taking the bronze medal with 3,837. Colombia's Paola Gomez had the highest individual total of the day with 1,475, an average of 245.83, as she teamed with Alejandra Mora and Luz Leal to take fourth with 3,795.

Kulick's big day helped bolt her into the lead in all-events with 4,109 for 18 games, an average of 228.28. Dorin-Ballard is second with 4,088, Johnson is third at 4,081, Barnes is fourth with 3,932, Macpherson sits in fifth with 3,931 and Asbaty is eighth at 3,874.

Competition continues Thursday morning with the first of two three-game blocks in the five-player team event. Macpherson will sit out for the first three games on the short oil pattern, while Asbaty is out for the second block on the long oil pattern. Both players will bowl for their all-events totals, however.

The 2008 PABCON Women's Championships features 16 countries from the American Zone competing in singles, doubles, trios, team, Masters and all-events. The top 16 players in the all-events standings after 24 games advance to the Masters match play competition.
