On a side note, the only way I can pick up the 7-10 split is with a speed around 23mph with revs, hitting the left side of the 7 into the corner by the 10 and out to tip the 10. Practicing that is tiring lol
How many times have you converted the 7-10?

That's funny, I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I've only ever gotten the 7-10 by throwing it hard at the 10 pin but still having a slight hook at the last second to propel the pin to the left. Basically you have to get the pin to hit the ball twice. I've converted it 5 times in my life.

I've gotten it two times but never during sanctioned league play. I've gotten them both during the practice during the warm up time before league starts but I never saw it as I was just trying to hit the 10 pin. I think the way The Mayor says works best for me too (right-handed).

I haven't managed to get it yet by hitting the 10 first. I tried for years that way and never succeeded. Hitting the 7 pin I'm about 18% success rate during practice. 0 for 2 so far during a sanctioned event. On the plus side, I obviously don't leave that split very often :D

I throw the equivalent of two games at just corner pins. I take the 7 first and try to convert the 7-10. I do this about 2-3 days a week since Jan 9th. For all of 2011 it was daily as I was practicing 30 games a day at that time (out of work on workers comp & had permission to only bowl)

I moved this out of the ball speed thread so it didn't hijack it. Plus 7-10 split deserved a thread of it's own.

7-10.. never been close.. dunno if it's a problem with my center.. but the pins don't seem to bounce off the walls and so practically impossible to convert the 7-10..

Nope, never been close. I've never had pins bounce out of the back despite me hitting the pin as hard as a can, full wind up. I don't know if its an issue with the lanes or if I just haven't had the lucky bounce yet.

The kick plates at your center have a big effect on your ability to bring pins back onto the deck. Some houses are more lively than others. My favorite time I picked up the 7-10 was in a PBA experience league, I threw a great shot and the 7 and 10 didn't even wiggle. This is a house that is known for being extremely hard to get pins to dance around. I'd never even seen anyone bring a pin out from the back. Well I threw it as hard as I could at the 10 and it must've hit just perfectly because it flew across the deck, tomahawked the 7 and both pins came out a little more than 1/3 of the way down the lane. It was the coolest feeling. There is nothing like picking up the 7-10.

i have made it ocne and it was a just last sunday, the bowling allie i bowl at you cant make it bounce back on the lane from the back or even off the wall cause if it hits the wall it just goses streght back thats why when i do it i have to hit the left side of the 10 pin and be on a angle right to the 10 soo my ball will get close to the wall for my ball to hit the ball and come back on the lane.
but when i got the 7-10 split i did not know i just went up threw the ball did not even get in my approach stance just walked up and walked back and everyone came over to me saying nice job and i was just like "ummmm ok thanks"

Yes.Three times. Each time throwing at the seven pin and bouncing it out of the pit to take out the ten pin.

I've converted the 7-10 split about 6 times in my bowling career so far
and the big 4 split twice and the Greek Church split about 3 times.

If you look on youtube of the videos of people picking them up (PBA guys anyway), they always bounce the pin off the back wall into the other one. I've never seen that happen with the pins at the 2 alleys I play at here (bouncing off the back wall back onto the deck). I have seen someone pick up a 7-10 though, by hooking the 7 into the left wall and having it bounce back and roll into the 10. I tried doing that a few times but never really came close to getting both pins, so now I usually just take the free 10 pin practice.

had another chance at the 7-10 split but missed both pins anddroped the ball right in the gutter it was kinda funny but when i left the 7-10split was the worst thing ever happening i hit alittle high in the pocket and i left up the 10 and had the 7 fall over but then another pin came over and stood up in the 7 spot

I converted it once by fluke. I spun the heck out of the ball and threw it towards the 7 pin (from the right). The ball was about to enter the gutter when it barely clipped the 7 pin and shot it to the right to take out the 10.

Ive probably picked it up 10 or more times, and every single time i threw the crap out of the ball and bounced it out of the gutter lol. Never had a legal pickup.

I've hit it twice, one bounce of the 7 pin out of the gutter and the other with quite a healthy dose of luck I hit honest and legal. It JUST grazed the 10, which wobbled for a good full second before falling over. I had actually turned around and was walking back when I heard someone say "Wow!, he got it!".

i do wonder.. how many times have top PBA players like Walter Ray Williams Jr, Norm Duke, Sean Rash, Tommy Jones, Pete Weber (and so on) picked up this split..
billf

Walter Ray Williams Jr and Norm Duke don't throw with such an acute angle to leave nasty splits often.
WRWJr is so good, this split is afraid of him!
Tommy Jones throws so dang hard at single pin spares I'm sure he leaves this split just so the 10 pin can feel like the 7 can get the beating once in awhile.
Pins aren't afraid of Sean Rash if it's televised...they know there is a good chance he will miss them anyways.
Brian Voss picked it up last year in a mixed doubles tournament with Diandra Asbaty in the tenth frame to advance to the tv show.

I think I remember seeing Jess Stayrook make it on TV back in the 80's.

I saw it done this morning. We have a great provincial tournament here in Riviere-du-Loup. The sunday morning is the individual challenge which leads to a 1000$ prize for the first place. The guy left the 7-10 split during the final match. The guy told his friend «watch me convert it», as a joke. And he did it! It was an amazing moment. This spare permit him to win.

I had it done against my team twice. Once in a summer doubles league, and another in a men's league in the same house.

I picked up the 7 / 10 once! It was in California Wish I could remember the date, I know for sure it was in Modesto Ca,,, summer months, at that time I just boweled once in a blue moon. Anyway I threw the ball at the 7 pin, and on the way down the whole alley started to shake, It was a earth quake about 90 miles away, and we had a hell of a after shock. Both pins rocked back and forth, then the 7 fell followed by the 10 pin. It showed up as a spare conversion! So I have picked it up... I think to this day it was
the velocity, speed of my ball that created a vacum between the pin's that caused them to collapse inward! I am sure it had nothing to do with the quake. But then I am a dreamer. This did happen!! What do they say,,, timeing is everything! Next time you have a 7/10 wait for a Earth quake!! If you got the time!!!!! (:)

maybe not the most conventional way to do it, but it works

wonder if it counts during pba tournaments?

once the ball crosses the foul line and before the pins get picked up, it counts. I can't think there is a PBA rule against something like this. the only way there would be is if it happened before during a PBA event and was deemed unfair, then a rule was voted in for just such an occasion. but I doubt that

Unless you can count a ball hitting the side board then hitting the ten then I have not converted. Rolled into the gutter at a steep angle just in front of the ten and the ball reacted like a pinball in the corner hitting the ten. Now a friend rolled the first ball and left the 7/10 but in this case the ten was tapped slightly and slid over to the 9 pin postion then on his second roll he was able to get the ten to take out the 7. I said it did not count as a 7/10 conversion he agreed but we still wonder if it was a true 7/10. It was still exciting to see though.
