I've been away from bowling for a while (last league in 1997). I used to throw a Storm Black Thunder. I am planning to buy a new ball in the next 2 days - staying with Storm.

My question is, what is the best way to interpret the Diff., RG and Flare Potential as far as how the ball will react (on average - I realize it depends on oil)?

I am a lefty, stand center left, throw out over the 7th board and like a lot of back end movement, increased speed and pin action.

I am considering selecting a display ball from a proshop that has been clearanced. X Factor Triple Xtreem, Super Charge or Vertigo. Can I expect a display ball to be of the same specs and quality as a ball I would order?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

RG (Radius of Gyration) basically lower numbers are more early revving, higher the number the ball revs later on the lane.

Lower RG's will go into a roll earlier, so they are better suited to bowlers with a higher speed or your looking for a earlier movement on the lane.
Higher RG's will let the ball react later down the lane for those with slower speeds or if you want the ball to react later.

The Differential is basically used to figure the track flare. Higher the Diff. the more track flare.

As far as display balls unless they tell you their 2nd's,x-outs or blems or cut in half displays etc. they should be just regular balls same spec's, 1st quality balls that they sat in the window for display. those are older balls, prob. why they got them on clearance.

Thanks for the info. So, what are typical oil patterns for a "fun" Tuesday night mixed league these days?

So, what are typical oil patterns for a "fun" Tuesday night mixed league these days?

The oil pattern is pretty much dependent on what your local center wants to put out there some centers
run anywhere from 35 feet to 45 feet patterns super oily or super dry or somewhere in between our center
runs a 41 foot really oily pattern on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights and on Tuesday they run a
38 foot dryer shot for the seniors.

Then on Friday night we have a shot they call the shot from He** that is never the same on Friday nights
since it is not a sanctioned league or anything like that it is always a little different each week that way it
keeps you on your toes to try and get good scores.
