Ball Spinner??

I am thinking about buying a Ball Spinner online but have a couple questions. Has anyone bought one for around $200 but then contructed a "sink" around it? I see they have the ones that are built through the bottom of the sink but they are like $800. I feel like this could be a project where Lowe's are Menards could save a lot of money here.

Any setup tips would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the spinners sold are what are called table top models. The way they mount the motor next to the ball cup, makes it almost impossible to make it into a tub mount model simply.

But it would depend on just how the particular model you had was made and how much you could reconfigure it. Also Most spinners have a optional splash guard you can buy.

Now there are some DIY's. you can get a cheap plastic utility tub and just set it in it.

You might can use a running water source , it would depend on how the spinner was sealed/rated for water immersion. Most table top are designed for use with a spray bottle as the water source.

Just remove the ball cup and cut a hole in the tub bottom to fit the shaft through, use some silicone sealer to seal it up and put the cup back on. Also add drain hole to the tub. Depending on how far you want to go, you can mount a drain hose or tube to the plastic tub and use running water.

You can also just stick the whole spinner inside of a big rubbermaid storage bin.

I am going to get one in less then 30 days!!! I want one to play with. I have a few balls I can experiment on!! I think it will be a blast!!
I have a wood work bench that I am inclosing on 3 sides to catch spin off, and a shop Vac and large funnel to catch a lot of the Ball matreials that might not be
good to inhale! Its going to be a nice set up to play with!! Can't wait to get it!! Will let you all know how it works out, along with some pictures!!

Hmmm, the sink at work is the utility design shown above. We have an air hose that reaches the bathroom and I have several air drills at work. I'm starting to think that buying this wouldn't be too bad. Cheaper than a spinner and better than by hand like I do now.

I definitely will. My wife went to house sit for her dad for 10 days. Sounds like a perfect time to buy another thing for bowling without having to explain what it is or why I want it lol.
She has never told me I shouldn't or even to wait. She is grateful I pay the bills and don't go do things I shouldn't. The way I figure it, I spend as much on bowling as others do drinking just mine is usually more at one time.

while I personally don't have any experience with a spinner, just from looking at it there really isn't much to it. I bet an afternoon searching craigslist and some soldering/wiring you could probably build one in a tub for next to nothing. An electric motor, a rheostat, an old extension cord, a washtub, a bike chain and sprockets and something to hold the ball. You could probably get a tupperware container and use the tube from the bike to hold the ball. It would be a ghetto spinner but it would work, that is if your "handy" enough to construct it.

Forget the chain it would be noisy, cause to much vibration, have to keep it lubed and you don't want a broke chain spinning around. Use a belt.

Tupperware wont hold up long, the plastic can deform and you'll start wobbling. plus could break off the shaft. A cheap steel salad bowl with a piece of tubing around the edge is better.



Depending on the type you want to make (table top or tub mount). Pull a motor from washing machine or a sump pump motor (my innovative tub mount, uses a Dayton sump pump motor.), it should be sealed.
Get About a 1/2" x ???" V belt, 2 pulleys, a sealed flange bearing, piece of shaft preferably with the end threaded,shaft stop collar, steel salad bowl, a piece of thick walled tubing, electrical cord, plug and switch, assorted nuts bolts washers and a frame to mount it all too. Steel, thick aluminum, a wood box can work for a table top model.

If don't get a sealed motor incase it with a plastic paint bucket or similar thing and silicone sealer.

I love my innovative spinner but I don't have a sink/shield for it. I use cardboard around 3 sides and change that when I have to. A towel tucked into my collar makes a nice shop apron, too. :)
