Hey guys,

Im new to this forum. I have been using a Scout Reactive since i was about 15. Im 21 now and really am getting back into bowling. My scout reactive wasent hooking at all for me so i decided on the Roto Grip Shooting Star. I just have a basic shot, 3rd dot right then over 2nd arrow then it goes to the pocket ( sorry i havent got the terminology down yet ). Was this a good ball to get for my shot? Im worried it might not have enough hook.

Thanks,
Patrick

That ball has plenty of hook to it until it hits the real heavy oil patterns. Just getting back into bowling you are probably not doing many, if any, tournaments yet so this ball will be just fine.

Welcome to the boards.

The Shooting Star is a good solid ball. Has a nice roll and you can get deep with it. BTM rated it pretty Good ,mostly 9's for all styles on the oil and med's. Had a 50 on the hook rating that's not bad. It's a fair move up from the Scout. It's a strong piece at a good price point.

Thanks for the input. I should be able to try it out thursday and I cannot wait! And also ive herd this ball performs pretty decent on med-heavy oiled lanes but oveously I have never tried it out so I don't really know. My average with the scout reactive was 176.

May I make a suggestion? On your first throw with this ball, stand 5 boards left and keep the same target. This is just an educated guess based on the capabilities of each ball but should get you close to start your own adjustments with. Good luck and please keep us updated.

Got to try out my Shooting Star today. First game got a 189! Fantastic ball and perfect amount of hook. Can't wait to practice and get really good with this ball. I also like the fact it can pick up corner pins by "breaking your wrist". Very happy with my purchase!
