thanks.. very very happy me..:D but still a little disappointed (we always want to do better, don't we?).. only 4 strikes (and none from the 7th-10th frame, even though there were 1-2 clean pocket hits).. would prefer to have more strikes..

Only worry about what you can control. Hit your mark, adjust your target line, hit the pocket, etc.
Have you ever tried working a few games on just spares?

martin

not really.. the pinsetters here are manual so i have to practice my spares as they come.. otherwise i would be practicing my 7-pin spare almost all the time because i'm struggling a lot with it.. lol..

You can always practice your 7s. I will do that with the ten. I'll bowl a whole game just trying to hit the 10 and nothing else. If I hit the 10 on the first ball, I will try to hit that spot again on the second ball.

Still havent gotten that yet. messed it up in the 10th a few times too.

practicing the 10-pin won't help with the 7-pin spare i think.. because i'm quite good at sparing the 10-pin (at least 80-85%) but struggle a lot with the 7-pin.. sometimes overhook into the gutter, sometimes not enough hook..

As a member of an amateur tour (ABT), I can tell you that placing focus on bowling clean is more important than just striking. When you are warming up, make sure and take a few shots at your 10 and 7 pins, even if you have a full rack. This will get you lined up when the shot comes up later. I cannot tell you how many times I have lost a match in tournament play or missed the cut by just 1 spare.

In my opinion, practicing single pins with a full rack also helps you to learn how to focus more. The bigger the distraction at practice the easier the same would be at a tournament or even league night. I love practicing while birthday parties are going on.

hopefully i'll have more clean games.. when i bowl clean games (or near it), i just keep telling myself, the strike will eventually come.. just don't miss for now (when i bowl good and hit the pocket but leave single pins.. sometimes the 8, most of the time the 10-pin but even when tough spares i tell myself that actually)..

I love practicing while birthday parties are going on.Same here. Nothing will help you train your focus more than 5 screaming kids standing on the approach next to you.

if they "fly" backwards, it's bad enough.. but if they "fly" forwards towards the pins, wow that would be some stunt.. but be prepared to be killed by their parents.. lol..

That darn 10 pin use to be a problem for me!!! I seem to get, (on some days), my unfair share of them! I was lousy ,, maybe one out of 10 (:/ Then I found the combination of a burnt out alien ball, and standing far left, and HITTING the CENTER mark, (((not taking my eyes of THAT mark, sorta like golf, keeping your head down on the ball)))! Now I hit it 80 to 90 percent of the time! It eases the pain of what should have been a strike, and then not only not getting THAT STRIKE, but missing the spare!! Double Whamie!!
It has helped my game a whole buch learning the most accurate way to throw the 10 pin spare!

can't seem to throw my spares properly.. example when i throw pin 10, my ball normally goes toward pin 2 - pin 7 direction :(

I throw the occasional clean game, too. My wife's longest streak is 19 frames clean, and I'm only at 16 before disaster struck. ;)

Bowling is a funny game. The highest score I ever bowled clean was around 210. My best game ever was 246 and I had 2 open frames. lol

that was about 10 months to 1 year ago.. my most recent high games for the past 3 months were just 200-220.. haven't reached 250 ever since that 279

Martin, do you throw a straight ball or hook for your spares? I use to hook at the 7 and made most of them. Now I throw it straight just like the 10. I put my right foot on the 1 board and throw across the center arrow. I use my spare marks now on every lane, every condition. Throwing spares straight, especially single pins, has really helped my average. Throwing straight takes the conditioner, carry down, etc right out of the equation.

i use a hook for my spares.. except pins 6-10 (either single pin or both).. tried throwing straight at the 7, but i keep hitting the 3rd arrow (from the right.. that's the 15th board i think) instead of the center arrow which i want..

I throw a curve as well when I hit my spares,

finally another 200 last sunday.. a 204 (but there was 1 miss though)..

9-spare (going brooklyn and leaving the 5),strike,9-spare(same as 1st frame),9-spare(near perfect shot, but 8-pin just refused to go down),strike, miss (a big four split.. so a 6 2 in this frame), then 3 strikes in a row before closing with a 9-spare(that dang 10-pin) and strike in the last frame..

went practicing again yesterday (10 games).. generally a good day.. and another no miss.. :)
157 (i rarely get up to my standards immediately on the 1st game.. lol), then rising a little to a 165, then a 204 (i'm slowly but steadily getting my 200s now.. i'm happy with that.. had a split in the 6th and missing a spare on the 3rd shot on the 10th)
4th game a 185, then a 199 on the 5th game (the no miss).. 6th game was a mess.. 134 (missing all except for 2 strikes and a spare)
last 4 games, can't really remember my scores.. but all within my usual avg.. 160-180 range
